Happy 21th birthday to me!!!

I wanted to thank you all for the birthday wishes I got yesterday, I’m so grateful to have you all by my side. My 20th year was not the best to be honest but knowing that I had a place where I could share my current reads and talk about my current passion filled me with so much peace and joy and for that, thank you so much.

Here are some of the gifts I got for my birthday, I’m so happy and grateful for everything I got and again, thank you @luneyai for being the best friend I could ever wish for, I’m so grateful to call you my friend and I will forever cherish and take care of these gifts (I will not be talking about that sleep paralysis of Raphael…)

Supergirl The World by multiple authors
Rating : ★ ★ ★ ★

Supergirl The World is a compilation of 14 short stories from 14 different countries (France, United States, Mexico, Germany, Spain, Finland, Italy, Turkey, Serbia, Cameroon, Poland, Colombia, Argentina and Japan) about Supergirl.

What I really liked with this comic is discovering how from one country to another the artists and scenarists portray Supergirl/Kara in a different way, not only in the art style does she changes, in some countries she’s drawn in a more childish style while in some she’s shown more serious and mature but also her character, her emotions and the way she acts changes a lot and I loved discovering her different faces.

My favourite short story from this comic was the one from Italy. The way Francesca Michielin, Irene Marchesini and Federica Croci portrayed and drawn Supergirl was very touching. Supergirl is most of the time portrayed as this very strong and powerful woman but here they showed a more vulnerable side of her, they showed Kara, the anxious and lost woman behind Supergirl, she’s not fighting the world or dangerous monsters but she’s fighting herself and her mental health that is slowly destroying herself. “I feel like I’ve been forced to wear a mask and I’m not sure it suits me. Sometimes I feel like something is consuming me. The energy within me is wild, untamable. It’s as if the entire universe were bursting out of me in every direction. This stress is devouring me.”

The stories are very short (less than 20 pages each) so if you like Supergirl you’ll definitely love having this in your collection!!!

Merci énormément @urbancomics pour l’envoie de ce magnifique comic (service press reçu gratuitement) 🤍

My Pantone birth chart palette

These days I’m in the mood to do some book trends and I’ve seen this one pass so many times on my feed and I absolutely loved the concept so I wanted to do my own little version of it with different types of medias I love (art, books, comics, mangas, films, songs and characters). It was so hard to find things with these specific colours, especially the last one… but I tried my best to stay as close as I could, I hope you all will like it!

Let me know if you know or want to discover any of these recommendations and I’m curious to know, what colours did you got ? 👀

Absolute Flash vol. 1 by Jeff Lemire
Rating : ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

"I see the future. I see tomorrow. Two tomorrows. Two worlds. Am I a hero or a monster?"

Absolute Peak period.

I can’t even start to explain how much I loved this comic, I just need you all to read it as soon as possible to understand how good of a comic this is. Not only is the story so nicely written but I also had a huge coup de coeur on the art of Nick Robles and A.L. Kaplan.

I don’t know much about the Flash universe because this is my second time reading something about this universe so I thought I would be a bit lost at first but I was so wrong, in just one volume I got so attached to the universe and the characters that I want to read more about it (so if you have any recommendations, I would be more than happy to take them).

I absolutely loved Wally West character. He’s trying his best to live a normal life as a teenager after moving so many times because of his father job in the army which makes him very lonely and lost, he never had the time to get attached to a place or a person before he had to move away again so he’s constantly trying to find who he really is, from one hour to another more responsibilities drops on his shoulders because of an accident that wasn’t his fault and now he gets these new superpowers that make him run so fast that he can’t stop and the people he thought he could once trust are now hunting him down so he has no other choice than to run away again.

The thing I loved the most about this comic is how compared to a lot of comics I read before, this one is just so full of colors, all the pages are so colorful and in my opinion it adds so much to the story, after reading I opened it again just to look at each panel one by one.

Thank you @urbancomics for sending me this gorgeous comic that I’ve been wanting to read for a long time, I’m so grateful and I’m so excited to read the second volume soon !!! (Service presse reçu gratuitement)

📍CHEVERNY

On the first of June (yes I’m posting this very late oupsiii) my mom and I both had a day off so we decided to go visit the castle of Cheverny. It is honestly one of the most gorgeous castle I had the chance to visit and I absolutely loved how each room was fully decorated and had a lot of art pieces on the walls. The castle is from the same family since 6 centuries so most of the furnitures are the real ones that were from the 16th century when the castle was built.

One of the main reason why we went there was for the Tintin exhibition “Les secrets de Moulinsart” because the castle of Moulinsart was heavily inspired by the Castle of Cheverny and that’s why there’s an permanent exhibition of Tintin there. We weren’t expecting a lot since there’s not a lot of pictures online but it end up being very nice, there’s a lot of different rooms to explore and some interactive buttons that make noises or that turn on a light. Outside the castle there’s a Tintin shop where I found “Tintin au pays des Soviet” and two little Tintin figurines for my bookshelf.

Les deux Van Gogh by Hozumi
Rating : ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

“You don’t need to be rich to be an artist. Art belongs to everyone!”

Since I’m very young I’ve always loved Vincent Van Gogh art and the story behind his paintings so when I discovered that there was a manga on his story, I immediately picked it up. When I started reading I noticed that everything wasn’t based on his real life story and that a lot of the informations were invented or romanticized but it was written and drawn in such a beautiful way that I loved it anyway.

What I loved the most about this manga is that for once Theodore is the main character, you see the relation he had with Vincent through his eyes, you discover more about his life and how important he was in the art world at that time, how he fought the beaux arts academy who privatized art exhibitions and who made arts only accessible to the elites and how, with the help of some painters, he made a place for artists who weren’t rich or high born to be recognized as artists too.

There’s a passage in this manga that made me a bit emotional. Theodore is talking to other painters about how Vincent was born sick and his sickness was that he doesn’t know what anger is and that for him the simple fact of living is beautiful, for me in that sentence you could see how different both brothers were from each other but also how similar they were. Vincent saw his life through his paintings so life was beautiful but also devastatingly sad because he spend his whole life stuck with seeing everything through his paintings, while Theodore lived his life with the brutal truth of seeing everything but he always tried to make Vincent known for his art, in a time where art was reserved to the riches because he knew people would love his paintings but except him, no one payed attention to Vincent and his paintings, until he died.

Vous parler de mon fils by Philippe Besson
Rating : ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

“The absence of our son is inescapable, overwhelming, we feel it in every room of the apartment, in every place we frequent, his disappearance strikes us with every step we take, the lack of him is cruelly felt in every moment of our existence. The awareness that we will never again embrace him, breathe his scent, hear his voice or catch his smile is a constant torture. And nothing and no one can fill this void.”

It’s my first time reading a Philippe Besson book but definitely not my last, it’s short, simple but so beautifully haunting. This book is written from the dad’s perspective, where with the help of his memories and his present life, he’s telling the story of Hugo, his oldest son, that decided to end it all.

It’s a very silent book, there’s not a lot of dialogues between the family members because they can’t find the courage to speak with one another, so they grief in silence and that’s what makes this book so heavy and sad. What made me the most emotional is that you can see how grief implant itself into the daily life of Hugo’s family, how it’s in the little details that they’re missing him the most, it can be an empty chair at the family dinner table or the smell of his perfume that is haunting his room. This book should be obligatory to read at school to make kids and even adults understand how much bullying can destroy someone’s life. This book can be very triggering so be careful while reading it.

I never thought I could find and see myself in a character as much I saw myself in Hugo. Like Hugo I’ve suffered from bullying, nearly all my school life. For the bullies, this period of their life was just a chapter, a vague memory they probably don’t even remember anymore but for the people that were bullied, it isn’t just a chapter but a whole book, it’s years destroyed because of some stupid kids, the group effect and incompetent teachers/supervisors.
