“ …even though I tend to think all hearts are transportive and destructive in their own ways— all hearts carry what some might deign to call magic.”

This novel was nothing short of just that— magic! I adored the beautiful, lyrical, and emotional prose. It was everything I expected a sequel to be. I think… just as a whole… I prefer the first book a bit more (don’t hate me 🫣), but still a stunning conclusion nonetheless. Definitely a story that will remain with me for a long time yet.
Also, Bartholomew seems to have gotten funnier in this book, his one liners had me laughing out loud—
“Have care for my virtue!”, “Call him an idiot, he likes that”, and my personal favourite, “You witless wonder”.
Go read it and fall in love with Bartholomew rn!!!!!!

——— Currently ill because I manage to catch whatever dang bug my kids had. UGH!
And currently reading, Witch Season 🩸🗡️🔥
I’m about 40% into this book, the first of a series. It’s set in LA (which I know nothing about). The fmc is part of a coven who tracks down young witches, who don’t know they’re witches. It reads very much like a 2000s tv show, extremely nostalgic for me who grew up on those shows. Also, as someone who is of south asian ethnicity, great representation of the mmc. It’s quite fast paced too, there’s also a slow burn, rivals to lovers romance (… I think, will update when I know). Actually having a fun time with this while rotting in bed, a perfect read to start spooky season.

.✦ ݁˖ An Augtober Update ˖ ݁✦.
🌙🌧️🛋️⭐️

All I did (so far) this month was…
— eat: sweet treats & maccas
— sleep: been raining constantly so what else is there to do?
— watch shows: started rewatching friends again, and my brilliant career (aussie version of little women/becoming jane).
— read: daybreak ⭑⭑⭑⭑, half a soul ⭑⭑⭑ & currently on alchemised
— go shopping: tkmaxx (surprising for me because I never like to leave the house).

I sometimes feel so cringe posting updates, but then I remember that I LOVE seeing other people’s updates about their lives (I’m nosy). So I stop the overthinking and post anyway. What have you guys been up to? Watcha reading? Watcha watching?

Currently Reading: Alchemised 📖🥀⚗️
I devoured Manacled a few years ago, and it changed my brain chemistry. No qualms that this will probably do the same. Only a few chapters in and loving (probably not the best word to use) it so far. (Mostly) July Things ———

✶ My littles have been wanting more fantasy books, so I thought I’d start with Nevermoor. Considering reading them myself as well.
✶ Begrudgingly appreciating the last few weeks of winter before we go into spring. I use to be such a winter person, but I think (with age), I’m starting to crave the sun more.
✶ Did a list of some August hopefuls. I know it isn’t a lot but… at the rate I’m going it’s still realistic enough that I MIGHT actually achieve it lol.
✶ Made my hair silver. Which… it was turning anyway (that’ll be the age thing again).
✶ Oh, and speaking of age… I turned 35! Ageing is a privilege and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Very grateful to be here and still get to celebrate birthdays.

🦋✨🗡️⛲️🏛️

In full transparency, I picked up this book at the beginning of the year, and soft dnf’d it, hoping that I would pick it up again. I’m truly a believer (now more than ever) that we read stories when we need them the most.

My words simply wouldn’t be able to do this story any justice at all. So, I’ll leave you with a brilliant summary by the author herself: “It’s about a woman who tries her best, an errant knight who falls in love with her, and a precious limestone gargoyle. It’s about what we lose and what we gain, the arduous journey of self-discovery—— the painful, beautiful burden of living.”

If THAT(!!) doesn’t possess you to pick it up, I don’t know what will. I’m not going to say happy reading because you’ll end up crying anyway. And laughing!! There were genuinely so many comedic moments. Hope you end up loving this story as much as I did. x
