I’ve debated posting this because it brings me back to one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to go through, but this past weekend, July 25, marked one year since I ruptured my spine and had to undergo an emergency spinal fusion.

There was a moment when I didn’t know what my future would look like or what I would be able to do again. Now, I thank God every single day for giving me the chance to walk again, to walk down the aisle at my wedding, go on walks with my son, dance, and simply experience all the little things I once took for granted.

In a split second, my life changed, and with it, my entire perspective. This past year has taught me just how fragile and precious life really is. I’ll never take for granted the ability to move my body, be present with the people I love, or experience another ordinary day.I’m still learning how to look at these photos as a blessing rather than a burden. They’re difficult to see because they remind me of the pain, fear, and uncertainty I felt in those moments but they also remind me of how far I’ve come, how much my body has carried me through, and just how much I have to be grateful for.

One year later, I’m just incredibly grateful to be here, on my feet, and able to keep living a life that at one point I wasn’t sure would look the same again. ❤️ by @_caitland_

2 years since my last LIB and it still owns a piece of me ⚡️After breaking my back, I didn’t know if I’d ever dance like that again… now I don’t take a single step for granted. Today, I put this uniform on for the last time. 14 years of representing the navy, accomplishing things I never imagined I would, busting my ass to be the best sailor I could be, deploying, becoming a Shellback, making the best and closest friendships possible, and getting the chance to see 16 different countries (getting into some trouble in some of them 🥴). Words cannot express the emotional rollercoaster I am experiencing right now. It’s bitter sweet but it’s a chapter in my life I’ll forever be grateful for. Joining the navy at 18 and moving across the world was the hardest thing I ever did but I would not be the person I am, accomplishing the things I am now, if I hadn’t gone through “the struggle” first. I am so grateful. 14 years in the navy - here is to a new chapter. 🫡 by @_caitland_
