A little something different…

Red is the Rose is a traditional Irish tune, a counterpart to the better known Scottish tune, Loch Lomond. Been stuck in my head all week, so I decided to do something about it.

Part 2!!

I might actually make a part 3 that’ll be shorter just to wrap it up; this is about 70 minites of footage shortened into a 3 minute video, with another 30 minutes excluded yet.

I tried to make our incremental progress clear as we made our way through this 4 bar long line. I tried to show every aspect of the process at least once. The truth is though, every single slice of the phrase that we added required listenining multiple times, slowing down the record, singing (a LOT of singing) and then attaching it by playing the whole phrase from the start. There were no shortcuts, and by the end we could both just barely get through it.

Extremely grateful for my guy @_christopher_gerace for making this a blast! taken in University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance by @_christopher_gerace

Last week @_christopher_gerace asked me if I wanted to get together and shed a solo, to which I said of course!!!

We listened to solos for 20 minutes until we for some reason decided on this one. I guess it caught our ear, but it ended up being wayyy deeper and more difficult than either of us had expected. I know for a fact I would never have attempted this solo alone, less had the patience or willpower to shed only the first chorus (~30 seconds) for 2.5 hours, only to “kinda” get it under tempo.

It was definitely grueling, but also a blast. The process is not a solitary journey. Collaborative practice is some of the most fun to be had when learning anything.

The second half of this chorus was even more of a challenge, Part 2 in a few days! taken in University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance by @_christopher_gerace
