Next up is Cleveland's very own Christopher "Chips Ahoy!" Gerace. A Jazz Trumpet and Political Science major with a minor in Creative Writing!! The crowning achievement of Chips' undergraduate tenure was the formation of his band Schmaltz🎺 (people should listen to the album right now!!). His favorite Groove memory was the final assassin showdown. "The atmosphere 🌌. The intensity💥. The adrenaline🏃. The Eric. It was all there." he says! Given a chance to steal ANYTHING on campus, Chips was quoted wanting the bell tower. "I wouldn’t move it, I’d just take it over." Chips' most dad-lore story was the 𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘨𝘦𝘥 acquisition of a yellow traffic light from out behind Bursley (shoutout rotvig gang). His comfort character is Prismo from adventure time. quote "That dude is a maximum chiller. Also a fellow pickle enjoyer." We'll all be missing the guy that filled the Chips-sized hole in Groove. See you space cowboy!

It’s hard to express how grateful I am to everyone who attended and was involved in my master’s recital. I have learned and grown so much in my time at U of M and this could not have been possible without the support of my family, friends, peers, and mentors. This is only the beginning of the next chapter of my life and I can’t wait to share more of my music with all of you! Thank you to @umichsmtd , @umichjazz , and everyone! Check my bio for the recording link! #umich #jazz #musician #trombone #trombonist

Had to transcribe this masterful demo by @krisjohnsonmusic during @umichjazz trumpet studio class yesterday, where we stitching together fragments of connective language from 5 different players. Kris had each of us teach the rest of the class a piece of II-V-I language that we had transcribed in the past (see my last post for those transcriptions!) and then helped us break them down, identify similarities, and “scotch tape” them back together to form a brand new line made up entirely of the material we had all just learned. Excuse the chicken scratch, I wrote this while waiting for the celcius I drank at 9p to wear off (hence the mistakes/corrections) Transcribed at 2:45a on 2/18/26. Follow @just_the_process.nbf to watch growth in real time.
