words flow from my mind like rivers when describing the one’s I love. This post is no different. I remember way back when I was 9 I heard the news I was FINALLY getting a baby brother. I almost couldn’t bear the excitement I would get all my books & read to you when you were still in the womb

I’ll never forget how hard I cried & how hard I prayed when I was told the Doctors said the umbilical cord somehow ended up wrapped around your neck right as the delivery was set to begin. I begged & pleaded with the Creator that I’d do anything if they’d just let My Brother live. The hours that passed felt like hell on Earth not knowing dragged on like an eternity & I thought I would die of uncertainty.

then finally the call came in that you had arrived we rushed to the hospital I just remember thinking to myself I’m going to do all I can to be the best Older Brother while I held you. I was VERY active in your 1st months of life anything I could do I did so attentively & with the greatest of care.

Watching you grow from then till now has been 1 of the most sacred things I’ve ever experienced. I’m glad you chose to be My Brother all those years ago because I wouldn’t be here today if you hadn’t. I was abused, assaulted, isolated, poisoned, almost killed so many times as a child I can’t even remember every incident anymore.

you gave me hope that my suffering could mean something that I could protect someone else from getting abused as badly as I had been I’ve failed you in a lot of ways but I was powerless to do more

you’ve had the spirit of a warrior since you 1st learned to walk no matter how many times you’ve fallen you get up each & every BLOODCLAT time even as an infant that indomitable spirit is even stronger in you now. you have my undying respect as the young man you’ve become & that you’re striving to be

I hate the purposeful ploys that keep us apart, kept us separated for 7 years of our lives some of the darkest most lonely depressing years I’ve ever lived through were because you weren’t there I realize that now. I had the honor of sharing space with our Indigenous family here in my hometown of Bdé Óta Othúŋwe. It was a truly beautiful day. Original members of the American Indian Movement Leonard Peltier & Dino Butler graced us with their presence, experiences, & words of wisdom.

Both Leonard & Dino faced the horrors of 3 letter org persecution. Both men were prosecuted because of an incident that the Feds purposefully created in Wazí Aháŋhaŋ Oyáŋke. 2 Federal agents ended up deceased after creating a situation where casualties would result. Dino was acquitted of the trumped up charges in 1976, while Leonard in 1977 would be convicted. This verdict would see him serve nearly 50 years behind bars for a “crime” he did not commit.

Leonard specifically reminded us that the fight for the land that still belongs to Indigenous people is on the horizon. As always the Empire is after our resources. The land that Indigenous people were moved to contains precious minerals that AmeriKKKa has unleashed hell locally & globally to obtain. It will be up to the younger generation to stand up, to fight back for our land, our animal relatives, & our unborn generations. We must leave them with a world where they can thrive so that their existence is far better than the one we have now.

Leonard also spoke about the importance of Indigenous Women in our struggle for liberation & self determination. It was the example of his Aunt that spurred him to take action & join the American Indian Movement. They must be respected & platformed at every opportunity. He spoke to us about how he could have served far less time behind bars if he’d flipped on his people & allowed himself to be a tool of Empire, but in the Spirit of Tȟašúŋke Witkó he refused to turn on his comrades.

Leonard also talked about the importance of solidarity. The film that was screened called Free Leonard Peltier spoke about the importance of the Black Panther Party in direct relation to the American Indian Movement. It spoke about how the Panthers influenced AIM as well as other Militant Indigenous Liberation Movements.
