https://mckenziegardiner.bandcamp.com/album/no-use-hidin-mirrorball-mix-ep 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Class of ‘78 is the band formed and led by Earl McKenzie and Clive Gardiner as teenagers before they became self-contained funk/boogie duo McKenzie & Gardiner. @_clivegardiner

This 5-track EP leads with a 2026 total reinvention of the 1982 original single called the Mirrorball Mix (vocal and instrumental versions) played and produced by Clive Gardiner; then the original 1982 single; and finally two never before released versions from the same 1982 sessions - an extended demo version and a pretty mad dub demo version by @_clivegardiner

A New Release Day is always special.

Today sees the release of our new single "NO USE HIDIN' (Mirrorball Mix)".

I've totally reimagined a track we first recorded with our previous band CLASS OF 78, and transformed it into a boogie banger. All new music and production by me in 2026.

You can find it on all music services. There's a QR code in the video or use the link here
https://bit.ly/NoUseHidinMirrorballMix

All plays, likes, follows and comments are truly appreciated. Thank You.

I've nearly finished our new single which is a Nu Disco remix of NO USE HIDIN'. These days I always use @aubiomixapp to check and refine my mixes, which is a website from renowned producer and music educator @aubreywhitfield. I've learned loads from her online courses in production and mixing. I was delighted to learn that I had their 3rd highest score in August !

NO USE HIDIN' (Mirrorball Mix) by CLASS OF '78 ft MCKENZIE & GARDINER is coming soon........🎶

Sometimes you don’t realise the impact you’re having until somebody else reflects it back to you.

I won’t lie, listening to this made me a little teary.

There are days when I’m tired. Days when the late nights, organising, promoting, rehearsals, schedules, musicians and constant moving parts make me wonder if any of it is actually making a difference.

And then I heard Clive Gardiner speak about me like this to @portugal_resident

Clive is a mentor at the Independent Music Academy and has become such an important part of our team. He is someone I respect enormously, so hearing him talk about the work I’ve been doing here in the Algarve, creating opportunities for artists, championing original music and trying to change the narrative around what a local music scene can look like, I genuinely felt emotional.

It made me feel very seen.

And it reminded me that yes, it is worth it.

Every artist who has been given a stage. Every original song that has been played instead of another cover. Every connection made. Every person who has walked into one of our events and discovered somebody new.

That’s the point.

Thank you Clive for your incredibly generous words and for believing in what we’re building. It means more than you probably realise.

And honestly, I could listen to this man speak all day. The voice. The eloquence. The delivery. 🤍

Very grateful for this moment and for the reminder to occasionally stop and recognise how far we’ve come.

Thanks Carl Munson for the enjoyable chat for @portugal_resident's podcast. We covered a lot of topics, including a story about the day I met Dolly Parton while working at RNIB, the UK's largest sight-loss charity 😃🎙️

Cassette Diggin' / Home Demos #01
"VICIOUS CIRCLE"

Starting a new series of reels today to share some deep cassette digs of tracks made but never released...yet ;)

These are home demos from back in the day so the quality is not great but the ideas are sparking.

This track has never been shared before, and is the only one where Earl and I share the lead vocals switching between us.

Comments welcomed.

Last round of deep digging from our 1st demos by The Class Of 78, the band that Earl and I formed at @villiershighschoollondon in Southall, London.

This is Part 2 of "Trekkin'", which was a live jam we made up in the studio on the day. It was the first time we had gone into a recording studio and we were excited teenagers. We were offered the chance to record a 3rd song and this is the result, but the lesson we learned is next time work it all out BEFORE you get into a paid studio, as we ran out of time/money and couldn't finish it. So it is what it is - raw and sloppy and great fun.

This demo has never been released, or recorded properly, but maybe one day ?!?!

Thanks for listening. What shall I dig next ?
