Meet our speaker, Cyanne John McClean.

Cyanne currently serves as a Diversity Aide for U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer through the Senate Diversity Initiative, where she works to build a more diverse and inclusive workforce on Capitol Hill through job assistance, professional development, and networking opportunities.

A proud Florida State University graduate, Cyanne began her career on Capitol Hill as a Congressional Black Caucus Foundation intern in the office of Congressman Gregory Meeks. She later joined Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland’s office as a Staff and Press Assistant, was promoted to Communications Assistant, and eventually transitioned into her current role with SDI.

Beyond her work in government, Cyanne is a lifelong servant leader. At just 15 years old, after volunteering in Tanzania, she founded the nonprofit Africa Smiles, which partners with schools to improve literacy by providing educational books and nonperishable supplies. Originally from Pembroke Pines, Florida, and of Trinidad and Tobago heritage, Cyanne’s passion for service extends both locally and globally.

2016 me thought she was GROWN 😭😂
Junior year of high school and all I cared about was school, stacking my resume, and “finding myself” — whatever that meant at 16. I couldn’t wait to leave Florida LOL. Dyed my hair, straightened my curls daily because length mattered more than health.

I was (and still am) a nerd, but 2016 was the year I started having a little fun while still living, eating, and breathing speech & debate. Dual enrollment. Launched a nonprofit. Competed on a national stage… in HIGH SCHOOL.

I placed as a top speaker at Harvard that year, and honestly, it’s still one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. Took barely any pictures because I was obsessed with Snapchat and just wanted to be cool, get into a good college, and be fashionably an Empress.

Life didn’t go exactly how I planned. HA! But God’s plans were better. Grateful for every blessing then and now 🤍 by @_cyanne_

Saw the Belton Christmas Light Trail on its very last night, and it felt special. A glowing NYE moment I’ll always remember ✨
