Part 1 of the performance Get Your Foot in the Door! (Big Foot). The work began with the ritual act of carrying a large foot sculpture from my studio to the Café OTO to
be wedged in the doorway of the space. Here is a little edit of the journey there as a photo story. Work explores the interrelated themes of boundaries, borders and imposter syndrome through the micro and macro lenses of breastfeeding, bodily autonomy and immigration.

Το εργαστήρι ξεδιπλώνεται μέσα από μια σειρά ασκήσεων και συζητήσεων που ενθαρρύνουν τις εσωτερικές μας ποπ σταρ να αποκαλυφθούν. Οι συμμετέχοντες μπορούν να φέρουν μαζί τους ένα τραγούδι ή μουσικό κομμάτι που θα ήθελαν να τραγουδήσουν, να κάνουν lip synch, να χορέψουν, να ερμηνεύσουν ή να συζητήσουν, και αν το επιθυμούν, επίσης ρούχα που θα θέλαν να φορέσουν ή κομμάτι ενός κουστουμιού.

✨ The Hotshots – performance workshop
As part of pitcherzzz residency, artists AnnaMaria Pinaka & Deniz Unal present The Hotshots
📅 Wednesday, April 8 | 🕓 16:00–18:30
📍 Synergeio Performing Arts Centre, Limassol

The workshop unfolds through a series of exercises, acts, and conversations that encourage our inner pop stars to come out. Participants are invited to bring a song or music track that they would like to sing, lip-sync, dance to, otherwise perform, or talk about—and, if desired, also a costume or a fragment of it.

A scene filled with secrets, whispers, reenacting roles and family dynamics: on the 7th of June, the performance Princess Diaries V took place at ROZENSTRAAT. A sabotage of ugly-witch truths and buried fairy tales, tracing moments of transformation, from adolescence to motherhood.

The performance was done by London-based visual artist Deniz Unal and AnnaMaria Pinaka, and was presented in the framework of the latter’s solo exhibition She Keeps Them Warm with Her Skirt.

Performance Princess Diaries V by Deniz Unal and AnnaMaria Pinaka
Saturday June 7, 17:00.

Princess Diaries V is a collaboration between London- based artist Deniz Unal and AnnaMaria Pinaka taking place in the framework of the latter’s solo exhibition She Keeps Them Warm with Her Skirt.

Deniz and AnnaMaria have been close friends and long-lasting collaborators since they met working as gallery hosts, at the ICA in London, when they were both 24 years old. Since then, they have been witnessing and supporting each other from close and afar.

On Saturday the 7th of June, at 17.00 they will meet again at ROZENSTRAT a rose is a rose is a rose to trace moments from where their practices intersect and interact with one another.

Presented as a conversation between the artists punctuated with moments of performance, it draws on themes of friendship and motifs of transformation from adolescence to motherhood to sabotage of ugly witch truths and buried fairy tales.

The performance is free of charge but a regular entrance ticket is required.

Bio Deniz Unal:

Deniz Unal is an artist, researcher and educator at Goldsmiths, University of London, whose work explores the intersections of performance, pedagogy, and therapeutic practices.

Unal’s practice is informed by queer, decolonial, and feminist strategies as they pertain to questions of intimacy, desire and control. In addition to moving image and performance, she also works with installation, soft sculpture, and textiles.

Her work has been show at institutions as Camden Arts Center; Mimosa House; ASC Studio’s (all in London), Künstlerhaus, Schloss Balmoral, Bad Ems;
Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof, Hamburg and Overgaden Institute of Contemporary Art, Copenhagen among others. taken in Rozenstraat by @_deniz_unal_

Four Rooms
Room 3- The Kitchen

Thinking about how to not sink completely into domesticity-cooking, cleaning, caring for the baby, when home becomes the main space and caring for a baby the main occupation.
How to maintain a creative life/force whilst autonomy is out of the equation.

From the shoot we did back in September just before bubba was born with the amazing and talented @amygwatkin and @megumi.matsuno with make up assistance by @riina0211 and set assistance by @waterpancake91.

The green goblin/goddess strikes again this time in its shimmery swollen form.

Performance at Spinning Lands @iklectikartlab back in January organised by @nazbalkaya and @apri_goat

The performance operated as a small ritual, punctuated by a poem I wrote and the musicians playing the Davul and Zurna as we work our way around the salt spiral. The ritual was for the year of ahead, to protect, love and flourish. The day before the performance I found out I was preggers so I drew a red spiral on by belly too for new life. The poem itself spoke a lot of the connection with a homeland. I found it difficult to post any photos from this event as soon after the big earthquake hit Turkey in February the performance felt connected with my sorrow.

Where’s My Shoe?

You’re in rush to leave the house and you’re late and can’t find the one thing you need to leave; your keys, your phone, your shoe, your jacket, your wallet that was just there the last time you looked. You frantically search for it.

You can’t get your shit together; you’re performing/speaking/acting/singing/dancing at an event and you don’t know what you’re meant to do, what to say, where to be, how to act and how to get there.

You’re in court but don’t know who you’re meant to be in the case; the judge, the jury, the defendant, the prosecutor, the audience, the security, the notetaker or all of them? by @_deniz_unal_
