8 Mart yalnızca bir kutlama günü değil; kadın emeğinin görünür kılınması gereken bir gün.

Bugün paylaştığım görsellerde farklı alanlardan kadın sanat emekçileri var: yazarlar, müzisyenler, sinema emekçileri, ressamlar, heykeltıraşlar ve eğitmenler. Her biri üretimin, düşüncenin ve kültürün parçası.

Yine de sanat dünyasında hâlâ değişmeyen bir gerçek var. Sergilere, koleksiyonlara ve sempozyumlara seçilen sanatçıların çoğu erkek. On sanatçıdan yalnızca bir ya da ikisinin kadın olduğu seçkiler hâlâ çok yaygın. Kadın sanatçıların işleri ise çoğu zaman aynı değerde görülmüyor ve daha düşük fiyatlarla alıcı buluyor.

Sanatın özgürlük, eleştiri ve ilerici düşünce alanı olması beklenir. Buna rağmen kadınların üretimi hâlâ ikinci plana itilebiliyor.

Belki de bugün yalnızca “kadın sanatçıları” kutlamak değil, sanat dünyasının yapısını yeniden düşünmek için de bir gün.

Kadınların emeği görünür oldukça dünya değişir.

March 8 is not only a day of celebration, but a day to make women’s labor visible.

In the images I shared today there are women working across different fields of art: writers, musicians, film workers, painters, sculptors and educators. Each of them contributes to culture, thought and artistic production.

Yet the art world still reflects a long-standing imbalance. In exhibitions, collections and symposiums, the majority of selected artists are still men. It is common to see programs where only one or two out of ten artists are women. Works by women artists are also frequently valued less and sold for lower prices.

Art is expected to be a space of freedom, critique and progressive thinking. Despite this, women’s production is still often pushed to the background.

Perhaps today is not only about celebrating women artists, but also about questioning the structures of the art world itself.

As women’s labor becomes visible, the world changes.

MON 9 FEB MARTÍN LA ROCHE A performance marking the launch of TALKER #16, featuring La Roche’s ongoing Musée Légitime project, a museum carried inside a hat. Working with archives and collections, his practice recontextualises objects through performance and publication. With contributions from Deniz Ünal and Cedar Lewisohn. TUE 10 FEB ABDULLAH MINIAWY TRIO + KAREEM SAMARA Egyptian poet, vocalist and composer Abdullah Miniawy combines poetry in classical Arabic with intense vocal delivery shaped by Qur’anic recitation and Sufi traditions. Abdullah Miniawy on voice and electronics alongside trombone and trumpet. Kareem Samara opens, exploring new dialogues between oud, Arabic percussion and live electronics. WED 11 FEB ROBIN FINCKER / LAUREN KINSELLA / KIT DOWNES Shadowlands brings together traditional songs, poetry and improvisation. Drawing on Irish sean-nós, texts by Emily Dickinson and Christina Rossetti, and new compositions, the trio move between folk lineage & contemporary composition. THU 12 FEB MARGATE ELECTRONICS A night of live electronic performance marking Margate Electronics’ debut at OTO and the launch of Margate Electronics Editions. Featuring hardware-led sets from Missing Music, YKLU, Danny and Tomas Jefanovas. FRI 13 + SAT 14 FEB SHIT AND SHINE A two-night residency from Craig Clouse’s long-running project, moving between noise rock, fractured rhythm and abrupt shifts in form. Fri with Thee Alcoholics. Sat with Louse. SUN 15 FEB RUTH GOLLER’S SKYLLA + PANDO PANDO Ruth Goller expands her Skylla project into Skyllumina, combining de-tuned bass, layered vocals and percussion across shifting ensemble forms, with live visuals by Ross Adams.
