For any followers, new and not so new, here's a little about me! And if you love transformations, you’re in the right place! I'm Susan, passionate about transforming homes and the positive effect it can have in your mind and space. My account is full of client projects plus my Victorian garden home in Edinburgh which has also undergone a change or two plus a little glimpse of time off and time out! Just received these pics so had to share. Have never had photos of the pooch and I before but so thought they deserved a little square on my grid! . Taken as part of an @scottishfieldmag editorial (can’t wait to share my feature when I receive the hard copies), I’m super delighted how they show the love I have for this little fella. . Blank space needing a personality? . Thought I’d share this cosy fireplace area transformation, part of a complete apartment overhaul in an Edinburgh converted school. . The fireplace was always central to the design of this blank canvas (see before pics >>) and whether on or off, love the way it provides a focal point in which to ground a very open space. Added a plinth to the Celsi fireplace base plus a solid oak top as really wanted it to beef it up with a touch of grandeur for greater impact. . What do you think? Hi, I’m Susan! It’s been some time since I’ve shown my face on here (things have been busy of late), so thought I’d re-introduce myself and tell you how I ended up on these little squares! After a decade at a successful branding agency, I moved from London to Edinburgh for love and started a new life from scratch. After some deep breaths, I started my own branding business and enjoyed over 15 years of fabulous clients, staff, and projects. Then something shifted and I wasn’t so happy. Not sure how or why, but it just happened to coincide with renovating my New Town home in Edinburgh. It was spotted by an investor who hired me to reinvigorate a run-down home. Additional investors followed, as did local clients via word of mouth - all culminating in projecting my career in a completely new direction! 6 years later, proud to say, I’m still at it! And, back to the subject. How did I end up here? I just love a ‘before and after’! Having a few projects under my belt, I started sharing my passion for transforming uninspiring spaces into much-loved homes on here. Along the way, I’ve built deep relationships with the people who live in them, many of whom have become close friends, many that I regularly socialise with! It’s something I could never have anticipated at the outset, and a completely unexpected career joy. And why have I stayed on here? This community! Whether it’s design lovers, renovators or you inspirational people! Such a rich, fruitful forum so full of personalities and surprises! The tips! Here for your life stories, must have products, travel, fashion… To share my ‘wares’! Sharing the beautiful end after an often messy process provides an honest insight into the real life of any transformation. I want to inspire and reassure those feeling their home could be better that it can be, and whether that’s just looking for ideas or indeed want my hands-on help to completely reinvent a home, I’m here! When you just can’t resist! A reveal before the final deal and a confession! I’ve been away for a while looking after Dad in Edinburgh then Spain and when it got too roasty for this fair-skinned one, I put together a little summary of this Dining Room transformation project! It’s not finished. The brass picture lights, pendant light and Art are yet to go up and even the cabinet doors are yet to be added before all the client’s furniture is reinstalled, however am so delighted with its change in personality, from concept to reality, I just had to share! And the confession? As a lover of other people’s wallpaper triumphs, it’s the first time I’ve ever used it! Where have I been?? Have a wonderful Saturday lovelies. POV: “Blue is too cold a hue”!! I was told this recently and having used a blue (or two) in my time, felt the need to address this view so here, my tried and tested tips (and swipe to see them in action)! * Bring in the wood! Any wood! This pairing mimics nature and brings so much warmth to the tranquility. * Introduce the brass for high visual contrast! Such a wonderful way to add that uplifting, luxurious and statement pop! A game-changer! * Creams! Yes there’s a reason Devonshire cookware and Cream Teas are still so indelibly delicious. Balancing soft’ cottagey’ off-whites against a crisper blue, even if you’re in the city, together they provide all hugs you never knew you were hankering for! It’s not an exhaustive list in beautiful partners for blue as have seen/implemented so may other gorgeous pairings (mustards, oranges, teals) but may just help if you’re pondering on the blue side! Sometimes you’re just lucky enough to find your folk! People far and wide, where your mutual passions collide. And put that together in one space, it’s a buzz! Well, this happened for me recently at the @mingleandhome inaugural Edinburgh gathering at @somewherebynicoedi (a happy short stroll from home) all organised by the powerhouse that is Anne Marie @lock.downhouse⁠ and her dedicated support team! Highlights have to Anne Marie of course (she should bottle and sell that energy), the much anticipated reunion/love up with Chief Mingler @johnamabile (definitely my man crush!), getting to squeeze Grace @fromlondontomanchester who exudes as much joy and colour as her interiors plus of course being surrounded by the energy of so many talented people, some of which I’m delighted to now call chums and others I met for the first time having exchanged messages, like pen pals, for years! Can you ever have too much space?? It’s an odd concept I admit, however sometimes a large space can actually be, well, too large! And that’s what I encountered here in this super long bedroom! Thankfully the request for additional storage after some forehead rubbing, helped resolve the challenge and the client’s were more than happy to ‘road test’ the new layout proposal, so swipe away for the journey and my solution!! Gone is a bed lost at the back of the room, the empty/wasted floor area and meet a room that optimises not only its beautiful woodland views but now enjoys a statement headboard, introduces practical/glamorous storage and now feels totally in proportion! Looking for add a little luxury to your loo? Meet this transformation in an Edinburgh Victorian home! Prompted by two new bathrooms I’m working on (you may have seen on my Stories) thought while I’m in the groove I’d share one I made earlier and some tips! * Pic 1, Feeling the need for calm? Keep your theme simple! Here it’s brass and blues - the brass creates a warm, high-contrast look that balances the coolness of the blue making the space feel, despite its size, luxurious and inviting * Pic 2, Add brass strips between tiles instead of grout! Totally elevates the space and so worth the effort in cutting these flat brass bars to size (available @bandq_uk). * Pic 3, Walls matter! Think about dividing the height (here shown with panelling and wallpaper). Consider painting around door frames (and/or maybe the door) to integrate into your panelling/tiling for a coherent feel! * Pic 4, 5, 6, 7, Mismatching fixtures can be an eyesore so if possible choose fittings from the same supplier/range! To make sure, order samples with easy returns to check! Taps, switches, towel rails, radIator etc here from @victorianplumbinguk and thankfully matched these @amazon Epinl Vintage Wall Light Sconces). * Pic 8, Lift the loo- So helps the feeling of space if you can see underneath. Plus add a characterful floor of your home and if on a budget, which my client’s were, consider vinyl! * Pic 9, Video 10, The beginnings.
