Learning that you have been cheated on is not simply about discovering that there was someone else in your relationship. It can also mean suddenly questioning so many things you thought you knew about the person you trusted, the history of your relationship, and even your own feelings.

That is why, after discovering infidelity, a person does not ask only, “Why did they do it?” Questions like “How long has this been going on?”, “How did I not notice?”, and “Which of the things they told me were actually true?” may also begin to circle through their mind.

Especially when trust has been shaken, a person may begin to reevaluate even the beautiful memories they once shared. A message, a gesture, or a moment that once felt meaningful may suddenly take on a different meaning.

Along the way, a person may begin to question themselves, too. Thoughts such as “Was I not enough?” or “What did I do wrong?” may arise.
