🌟Worker-Owner Highlight: Josh Wyble🌟

Josh is from Fresno and came to San Diego in 2016. He became politically active shortly after, joined the local DSA, and was involved on and off. He then joined the medics collective during the George Floyd uprisings of 2020, but took a couple years off from organizing for health reasons. He’s now a member of the Party for Socialism and Liberation and the Peace & Freedom Party locally.

He’s dedicated to building worker power and ending racism & sexism here at home. He also believes in ending US imperialism around the globe and bringing about a socialist future. In the US there's a lack of anti capitalist revolutionary spaces. As a big city like San Diego we really should have more of them, where you can talk politics in good faith, while getting a little bit of a coffee buzz, while also reading some literature. Spaces like this will be incredibly valuable to the working class of San Diego.

📚 Who Paid the Pipers of Western Marxism w/Schedule! 🗓️

North Star Cooperative is continuing our book club with the recently released “Who Paid the Pipers of Western Marxism” by Gabriel Rockhill. This book makes the argument that the US state department helped create the conditions for the development of a “compatible left,” namely what he calls “Western Marxism,” that is not a threat to the US.

For those on the left, we need to wrestle with this history and take a critical look at Rockhill’s arguments.

Our reading group will have 2 sessions, each on a Wednesday:

- October 21st at 7pm-8:30pm
- November 4th at 7pm-8:30pm

We will meet at the Regents La Jolla Clubhouse (9253 Regents Rd, La Jolla), the apartment common area across from the leasing office. *Street parking is available around the adjacent area of the apartment. Regents won’t allow parking in their front lot.*

📚 Axis of Empire Reading Group w/Schedule! 🗓️

North Star Cooperative, with Veterans For Peace - San Diego, About Face - San Diego, and the Degenderettes, are putting on a reading group with the new book “Axis of Empire: A History of Iran–US Relations”. It covers the last 200 years of history between the US and Iran.

This book is so important given the war on Iran, we all need to study together to understand why the US is constantly targeting this country and how we can resist this war of aggression against the Iranian people.

Our Reading group will have 4 sessions, each on a Friday:

- August 21st at 6pm-7:30
- August 28th at 6pm-7:30
- September 11th at 6pm-7:30
- September 18th at 6pm-7:30

We will meet at the San Diego Liberation Center (810 L Ave, National City)

North Star’s second bookstore pop-up will be on Saturday, July 25th, 10am-6pm, in Embarcadero Marina Park!

Comic-Con Weekend is always a great time to walk around the Marina and enjoy the cosplays, but this year, also make sure to check out the left-wing books at our our very own “Commie-Con” 🚩 ☭

We are launching our very first bookstore pop-up at San Diego Pride, on Saturday, July 18th, from 8am until about 4pm!

Be on the lookout for our table at the end of the Pride Parade on Balboa Dr. We’ll be selling a variety of foundational and current, new and used, social justice literature, while also offering a curated selection of radical queer zines, including one written by our cooperative members. We’ll also be joined by @chrismokcreations 😁

We’re having our first Bookstore pop-up at San Diego Pride, on Saturday, July 18th, from the early morning until about 4pm!

Be on the lookout for our table at the end of the Pride Parade on Balboa Dr.

We’ll be selling a variety of foundational and current, new and used, social justice literature, while also offering a curated selection of radical queer zines, including one written by me.

Donations and purchases will help us raise money for a cargo van, that we’ll use to take our pop-ups around the city, selling literature and vegetarian food and drinks.

In the long term we aim to secure a brick and mortar store that can serve as a political hub and community space.
