DIY or Die! The Che Cafe Pt.1: The History of a Radical Collective The Che Cafe is a radical collective that has existed on UCSD since the 1960’s. It started out as the student center, then became eventually became the C.H.E (Cheap, Healthy, Eats). It now doubles as a world renowned music venue, and a community space for students and community members alike. North Star Cooperative sits down with two legends of the space, David Morales & Arnie Schoenberg, as we discuss the history of the radical collective and its struggles to remain in existence, against UCSD’s attempts as shutting it down. You don’t want to miss this discussion! This will be the first of two episodes about the Che Cafe, with this episode focusing on the history of the Che and the next focusing what members are up to currently. Che out our podcast on all the major platforms! All linked in our Linktree.

📚 Who Paid the Pipers of Western Marxism w/Schedule & Updated Location! 🗓️ North Star Cooperative is continuing our book club with the recently released “Who Paid the Pipers of Western Marxism” by Gabriel Rockhill. This book makes the argument that the US state department helped create the conditions for the development of a “compatible left,” namely what he calls “Western Marxism,” that is not a threat to US Imperialism. For those on the left, we need to wrestle with this history and take a critical look at Rockhill’s arguments. Next Session: - November 4th at 7pm-8:30pm We will meet at the Art Hub in Barrio Logan (2151 Logan Avenue Suite Y). Please fill out the form to register for the bookclub. Feel free to come even if you haven’t read the book. Link in our bio & linktree. #bookclub #marxism #socialism #independentbookstore #socialjustice

🌟 🐕 Worker Spotlight: Chicharrón 🐾 🦴 Chicharrón is a black pug born in Tijuana. He is both a Distinguished Gentleman 🎩 and a longtime political activist ✊ and has helped North Star by being an adorable piglet at our popups. 🐖 He wants you to donate to our Kickstarter TODAY to expand our operations so he can meet more friends to pet him! 🐶 Collective liberation is for everyone! (but coffee is not for dogs and no pugs were given coffee in the making of this video) 🐷 #pug #kickstarter #fundraiser #sandiego #cooperative

🌟 Less than 9 days Left! Donate to our Kickstarter!🌟 ❗ Follow, like, share, and donate ❗ Link in bio ✅ We now have less than 9 days remaining, and still have to raise nearly $2500 in order to meet our $8,000 goal for a cargo van, with which to expand our popup operations! Our mission is to provide a combination of foundational and newly released left-wing, social justice-oriented literature, while also serving vegetarian food and drinks, and eventually hosting a full calendar’s worth of community events and media programming in our city. We are currently starting out as a mobile pop-up and need community support to expand! Every little bit from our community helps! #radical #sandiego #bookstore #kickstarter #fundraiser

🌟Worker-Owner Highlight: Josh Wyble🌟 Josh is from Fresno and came to San Diego in 2016. He became politically active shortly after, joined the local DSA, and was involved on and off. He then joined the medics collective during the George Floyd uprisings of 2020, but took a couple years off from organizing for health reasons. He’s now a member of the Party for Socialism and Liberation and the Peace & Freedom Party locally. He’s dedicated to building worker power and ending racism & sexism here at home. He also believes in ending US imperialism around the globe and bringing about a socialist future. In the US there's a lack of anti capitalist revolutionary spaces. As a big city like San Diego we really should have more of them, where you can talk politics in good faith, while getting a little bit of a coffee buzz, while also reading some literature. Spaces like this will be incredibly valuable to the working class of San Diego. #sandiego #workerowner #radical #independentbookstore #cooperative
