A Halloween tradition for our teachers or school librarians to read us this when I was in elementary school. I looked forward to it every year. "The Green Ribbon" is a classic, chilling short story from the 1984 children's book In a Dark Dark Room and Other Scary Stories by Alvin Schwartz and illustrated by Dirk Zimmer. The Story: • Jenny and Alfred: A girl named Jenny always wears a green ribbon tied tightly around her neck. Her classmate, a boy named Alfred, likes her and constantly asks why she wears it, to which she always replies that it is not important. • A Lifelong Secret: Jenny and Alfred grow up, fall in love, and get married.
