What a wild ride, performing ‘Venus III’ the slipping tongue version between Balkan anglophone ears at the opening of the Bulgarian Pavilion for the 61st International Art Exhibition at La Biennale Di Venezia.

Thank you to everyone who came and spent this precious time with us to celebrate our exhibition, to listen and to represent. One of the finest crowds there was. 🧡

Избрани кадри от официалното откриване на Българският павилион на 61-вото издание на Венецианското биенале за изкуство.

Павилионът беше открит на 7 май пред широка международна публика от целия авторски екип и комисаря на българското участие в присъствието на директора на Националната галерия Анелия Николаева и Екатерина Джумалиева като представител на Министерството на културата.

Изложбата, която представя България в програмата на най-стария и престижен форум за съвременно изкуство в света, е реализирана от изцяло женски екип: кураторката Мартина Йорданова, комисарят Десислава Димова и художничките Венета Андрова, Гери Георгиева, Мария Налбантова и Райна Тенева.

За България това е четвърто поредно участие във Венецианското биенале по изкуствата без прекъсване от 2019 г. насам.

Българският павилион се организира от Националната галерия, с подкрепата на Министерство на културата на Република България.

EN BELOW | Как изглежда един ден в Българския павилион?

Филми, игра, разговори, и избори, които очертават различни маршрути през „Федерация на минорните практики“.

От откриването си през май досега павилионът е посрещнал над 15 000 посетители от цял свят, които влизат в диалог с въпросите за идентичността, дезинформацията, труда, екологията и формите на съвместност и грижа.

EN BELOW | На 27 юни в Квадрат 500 се състоя първото представяне в България на каталога на изложбата „Федерация на минорните практики“ - проектът, който представя страната ни на 61-вото издание на Венецианското биенале.

След представянето на изданието във Венеция по време на Art Night Venezia 2026, публиката в София имаше възможност да се срещне с част от екипа зад проекта и да научи повече за процеса по създаването на павилиона, изложбата и каталога.

В разговора участваха кураторката Мартина Йорданова, комисарката Десислава Димова, авторите Станимир Панайотов и Бояна Джикова, създателката на интерактивната среда KAZANA Златка Узунова, както и художничките Венета Андрова и Гери Георгиева.

Каталогът, с дизайн на Никол Дечева и съставител Мартина Йорданова, проследява идеите, художествените практики и сътрудничествата зад „Федерация на минорните практики“ и разширява разговора около темите, заложени в българското участие във Венецианското биенале.

EN BELOW | Тази събота ви каним на представянето на каталога на изложбата „Федерация на минорните практики“ - проекта, който представя България на 61-вото издание на Венецианското биенале.

Заедно с кураторката Мартина Йорданова (@martina_yordanova), комисарката Десислава Димова (@dessislava.dimova), авторите Станимир Панайотов, Бояна Джикова и Снежана Кръстева, създателката на интерактивната игра KAZANA - Златка Узунова, и художничките Венета Андрова и Гери Георгиева ще разговаряме за процеса по създаването на павилиона, изложбата и каталога, както и за пътя на проекта от София до Венеция.

Дизайнът на каталога, както и на визуалната идентичност на проекта е дело на Никол Дечева (@nikolsde).

BG BELOW | The Bulgarian Pavilion at the 61st edition of La Biennale di Venezia (@labiennale) is officially open! It can be visited from Wednesday to Monday during the following time frames: 11:00 - 19:00 until September and 10:00 - 18:00 from October to November.

“The Federation of Minor Practices” curated by Martina Yordanova (@martina_yordanova) transforms the Pavilion into a speculative research laboratory that presents four films, produced by the Bulgarian artists: Veneta Androva (@veneta_androva), Gery Georgieva (@_gery_georgieva), Maria Nalbantova (@marianalbantova) and Rayna Teneva (@raynateneva). The subjects and messages of the movies are then interpreted through an interactive game called “Kazana”, which every visitor can play on their own and decide what kind of world they want to live in.

The screenings of the films take place everyday except on Tuesday when the pavilion is closed.

• Veneta Androva’s “Spray and Pray” examines infrastructures of disinformation through the ecology of mushroom websites and algorithmic systems in Bulgaria.

• Gery Georgieva’s “UWU Channel Radiance” mobilises digital myth and prophecy to question regimes of identity, pleasure, and mediated truth.

• Maria Nalbantova’s film “Marsh song” reflects her work at the Dragoman Marsh in Bulgaria that unfolds as a long term practice of ecological care, combining artistic research, environmental maintenance, and the recording of local narratives.

• Rayna Teneva’s “Geography Is Destiny” traces the entanglement of labour, care, and violence in the Rose Valley in Bulgaria, where rose harvesting coexists with arms production.

📍 The Bulgarian pavilion is located in Sala Tiziano, Centro Culturale Don Orione Artigianelli, Fondamenta Delle Zattere Ai Gesuiti 919, just in front of the Zattere vaporetto stop (find more about the location in the Highlights section on our account).

La Biennale di Venezia will run from May 9 to November 22, 2026.

BG BELOW | The Bulgarian Pavilion at the 61st edition of La Biennale di Venezia officially opened in Venice on May 7.

The pavilion was introduced to an international audience by the entire artistic team and the commissioner of the Bulgarian participation, in the presence of the director of the National Gallery Aneliya Nikolaeva and Ekaterina Dzhumalieva as a representative of the Ministry of Culture.

In the first days following its opening, the project “The Federation of Minor Practices” welcomed hundreds of visitors from around the world to Sala Tiziano. The pavilion quickly attracted significant international and media attention, more of which we will continue to share throughout the duration of the exhibition.

The exhibition has been realised by an entirely female-led team: curator Martina Yordanova, commissioner Desislava Dimova, and artists Veneta Androva, Gery Georgieva, Maria Nalbantova, and Rayna Teneva.

“The Federation of Minor Practices” transforms the pavilion into a speculative research laboratory that gathers signals from four films and activates them through an interactive game. It functions as an environment for audience interaction, where visitors are faced with choices navigating between different values and possible directions, and participating in the construction of a potential shared political future.

The exhibition addresses themes such as identity, disinformation, labor, and ecology, while exploring forms of collectivity, care, and shared imagination within the context of contemporary crises. Each visitor’s personal choice is understood as a minor practice that influences the “federation” itself as a space for collective orientation.

During the official opening on May 7, audiences also had the opportunity to experience Venus III by Gery Georgieva - a performance moving between Bulgarian and English language, and between text, music, and dance, exploring the human body beyond its idealised image.

The Bulgarian Pavilion is organised by the National Gallery with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria.

BG BELOW | As part of the opening of the Bulgarian Pavilion at La Biennale di Venezia (@labiennale), Gery Georgieva (@_gery_georgieva) will present Venus III - a 10-minute bilingual spoken word performance. The performance will be part of the official opening and will start at 19:00.

For the performance, the artist will inhabit a modern-day Venus, suspended between body and image, embodiment and projection. The work unfolds as a fragmented monologue shifting from narration into a hallucinatory stream of sensations, forms, and transformations. Gery Georgieva will perform wearing a costume specially created for the evening by SOS SKYN (Samara Scott).

„The body е чувал, the body is boundless, the body is a cosmic mass with orbiting moons of lipids. It drags its belly across the floor and leaves traces of cells, cookies, прах, трохи, plastic packaging and tiny crescent shaped nail clippings. Her body is гореща супа, but her wings will soon beat for the first time.” - Gery Georgieva, Venus, 2024

Venus III reflects on the body as an unfathomable entity - unstable, excessive, mutable, that transforms, dissolves, and re-emerges. What begins as a question whether body and soul are entwined becomes a process of release and empowerment, as Venus detaches from her own image and finally takes flight.
