Sometimes we don't ask for a hug, but we really need one. Instead, we cope in different ways. If you can relate, you're not alone. 🤍

Sending you all virtual hugs. 🤗

A year ago today, I was on my bed in my hostel and I got a nudge to turn my pain into purpose. Without hesitation I went to make my research and made plans. That's how Grief Is Love was born.

A year of showing up tired, unsure, confused.
A year of writing through my own tears.
A year of saying the things nobody else was saying.
A year of learning that grief is not a weakness. It is love with nowhere to go.

This one is very dear to my heart. I love it so much considering the fact that grief is barely talked about in Nigeria. I hope to bridge that gap by God's grace.

To everyone who has supported, engaged and encouraged me one way or the other, you have no idea what you mean to me. This page exists because you kept showing up. Thank you, truly. 💙.

Can I be honest with you?

I had no idea what grief was until it moved in and rearranged everything.
So I wrote what I needed to read. And now I want to give it to you.

CARRIED drops April 1st (tomorrow), and it's completely free — to celebrate one year of Grief Is Love. 🖤
Stay tuned💙 by @_griefislove

This is where the book ends.

Not with closure. Not with "you'll be okay." But with something I didn't know I needed: permission to stop trying to get back to who I was before.
That person is gone. The loss changed me. And for the first time, I read something that said that's not a tragedy. That's just what love costs sometimes.

There's a tribe of after. People who have walked this road and are still here, still feeling, still choosing life even when it's heavy. If you're reading this, you might be one of them.

And if your person didn't die, if they left, or drifted, or the relationship ended in a way nobody brought you flowers for, this is still for you. That love was real. That loss is real.

Love is the only thing that lasts. Megan Devine said it and I believe her. 💙

P.S. Something special is dropping on April 1 — our anniversary. A free grief guide made just for this community. Stay tuned. 💙

The hardest part of grieving in public is the people.
The ones who love you but don't know what to do with your pain. So they hand you "at least—" sentences and Bible verses and timelines for when you should be okay. And you smile and nod because you don't have the energy to explain what you actually need.

This part of the book gave me language for something I'd felt but couldn't name.
Not everyone is equipped to hold your grief. And you get to decide who gets access to it.
Some people you educate. Some people you quietly step back from. And slowly (intentionally), you build a team of people who can sit in the hard without flinching.

You shouldn't have to teach people how to love you through loss. But knowing that you can – that's its own kind of power. 💙

Grief doesn't stay where you put it.
It moves into your body, your sleep, your ability to think straight. It shows up as anxiety at 2am that logic cannot touch. As a chest that aches for no reason your doctor can explain.

This part of the book felt like someone finally speaking my language.
You can't solve grief. But you don't have to suffer through it with nothing in your hands.

Art. Music. Movement. The right words at the right time. Small things that don't fix anything but remind you that you're still here.

And this; you get to define what recovery looks like for you. Not what looks healed from the outside. Not someone else's timeline.

I've been away for a while. Grief borrowed me. But I'm back and I'm bringing everything I picked up while I was gone.

Starting with this book that looked me in the face and said: you were never doing this wrong.

Swipe through. This one's for everyone who has ever been made to feel like their grief was too much, too long, or too complicated.

And especially for those of you whose person didn't die but is gone all the same. Your loss counts too. 💙

Grief triggers are brutal.

‎One second you're fine, the next, you're in the parking lot sobbing because they played "their song."

‎Triggers can be:
‎• Songs, smells, places, dates
‎• Seeing someone who looks like them
‎• Hearing their name
‎• Random memories that ambush you

‎Here's why they hit so hard:
‎Your brain has STRONG associations with people you love. When something triggers that association, your brain briefly forgets they're gone, then reality crashes back in.
‎It's like losing them again in that moment.

‎Triggers don't mean you're failing at grief. They mean you loved deeply, they mean your brain remembers, they mean the connection was real.
‎And that's not something to be ashamed of. 💙

‎What's your biggest grief trigger? Maybe naming it helps 👇

"Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." — Matthew 6:34

Early in my grief, people kept asking: "What are your plans? How will you move forward? What's next?"
I didn't know.
I could barely survive TODAY. How was I supposed to think about tomorrow?

Then I found this verse.
Jesus isn't asking you to have it all figured out.
He's not asking you to know how you'll survive next month.
He's just asking you to get through today.
Today's grief is enough to carry, don't add tomorrow's weight to it. 💙
One day, one moment and one breath at a time.
That's all He's asking, and that's all you need to do.

How are you doing TODAY? Drop an emoji 👇
💙 = struggling | 🌊 = managing | ✨ = okay
