Mixtape mems from our shows/rehearsals in London 🥹I feel like the wealthiest woman on earth to be in this show, doing this work.You can’t tell from the pictures but we’re using Meisner principles to remain completely open to whatever happens in the show. There are ‘given circumstances’ that we discover on stage when our solo begins, which we accept as truth until the bows.It is incredibly vulnerable and wild to discover each show as it happens with no preconceived plans.I’m also in a cast with eight other brave women, two epic musicians, a crew of legends, and an emotionally intelligent director — and everyone is nice and doesn’t create drama or drain energy!As I said, I’m feeling wealthy.I’ve cried many tears not being in shows that I wanted to be in, so I will rejoice that I get to be in this gem. Thank you God for all of it. You know the journey has felt long 🤍 by @_helloabbey

True story: went to class a few days after a friend and I had been lamenting together about things ending with someone who gave many signs that it would be a life-long love.Honestly, this has happened to too many of my friends and I can’t really explain how angry it makes me. Verdon Fosse Legacy à Paris 🥹I went into this weekend excited to learn some very protected material from some legends, to get to the root of a style and technique that can get very muddied — I came away with so much more. This room was full of extremely passionate, hard-working, and hungry artists who inspired me to push myself hard. They were all so kind and funny, talented and stunning, and I really feel like we went through something together 💪🏼😅Our brilliant educators demanded a lot and this was, honestly, kind of wonderful. I did not expect to be pushed so hard but wow, I discovered more in me than I knew was there at this point in my life. The work I’ve done on my mental fortitude and health meant I was able to meet this expectation with joy and resilience.Some of my favourite lines:“The joy is in the work.” “Dance while you can.” “Do it again.” “That’s not high/low/extended enough.” “Put the car in neutral and let the engine rev.”I also realised that most of the excellence that we love about Fosse/Verdon was achieved through an insane amount of repetition and drilling — it’s encouraged me to not settle with just okay. I did not sleep much the night after we finished because my mind was buzzing with every thing my body and soul had experienced.@loriannferreri - thank you x infinity. You are cool and we applaud you. @elizaohman - you know I’m a big fan. Thanks for being light and boldness. @dycro33 - thank you for your passion. Keep dancing forever and showing us the way.@lloydculbreath - seeing you dance Sing Sing will be a treasured memory forever. A “dance track” is a loose term for a role in a musical that is dance heavy and requires advanced dance skill. “The Fates” are characters in Hadestown The Musical. More of the story below.Choreography: @helloabbeyDancers:@izread @sophiequay @georgiashaeanderson Film and edit: @helloabbeySong: “When The Chips Are Down” by @anaismitchell (who wrote @hadestown)Studio: @unit3.studios I think Hadestown has one of the most exciting jazz scores we’ve seen in modern musicals and as a jazz choreographer - this excites me to no end. The Fates are a trio that delivers a powerful vocal performance in this show. Listening to this song, I had the thought, “what if the fates were a dance track?”The music in this song (and the whole musical) is insanely layered - it’s a playground for a jazz dancer.I wanted to create choreo that communicated their power, their apathy, and their drama. Choreo that personified the music but still communicated with the body what is being said with the mouth. And while I personally disagree with the sentiment of the words, I understand the role they play in communicating the wrestle with our humanity and the struggles of the oppressed.Grateful for these dancers. The beginning of the end has come for our time in London. In an about a month, we’ll be heading on a six-month nomad adventure — which I’m calling The Long Road Home 🌅We love this city. It’s been our home for almost eight years. We went through COVID and lockdowns here, made friends who are family, and had our little boy. Ultimately, the pull to be close to our families has become too strong. I didn’t get to grow up with my grandparents as 3/4 of them passed before I was born, so we’re saying yes to the absolute privilege of having four incredible grandparents for little H.I didn’t realise I would find this so hard, but it has been very emotional for me. I know this is the best thing and I trust God with all of it, but that doesn’t mean it’s not painful to pack up everything and say goodbye to a place that has been so powerfully formative for me.I’m incredibly grateful to have our six months of travel to help the transition feel longer and to see some of the special people we’ve met along the way.Here’s the plan so far:APRIL — move out and go see @davidguymoore and my dad run the Paris Marathon together 🥐🏃🏃‍♂️— a week with my sister in the South of France for her 40th! ☀️— a weekend of dance training in Paris with @verdonfosselegacy and @we.are.on.off 🕺🏼👯‍♀️MAY— working holiday/sabbatical in rural France 👩‍🌾JUNE— back in London for I MADE YOU A MIXTAPE @cockpittheatre @responsetheatrecompany 🪩— staying with friends and hopefully doing lots of catch ups! ♥️— Germany for the Peter and Paul festival (look it up) and visit friends in Berlin 🏰JULY— Vancouver Island to see our old London besties and direct and choreograph for @seastarproductionss ⭐️AUGUST— @edfringe with @responsetheatrecompany for the whole month 🤩🪩SEPT— still forming our plans but we will come back to London one last time to say goodbye 😢Our plans are still being made, so if you have any suggestions of things we should do in each of these places, let me know.XFirst two pics by @_bethhalford by @_helloabbey
