Leave it to Michael Scott, pigeon poacher and co-owner of Pigeons on Broadway in Bushwick, the sickest pigeon exploiter of all time, to openly and blatantly brag about how little he cares about these birds as individuals. This gorgeous lone white king pigeon was recently rescued from a massive dog hoarding situation in Brooklyn. His bands read: "2019, MICHAEL SCOTT, " just trying to lose a few".

These people say they love their birds in one breath, and in the next, prove they have no concept of what "love" is. Of all the horrific injuries and cases I've seen, this band inscription is something that will be burned into my brain forever. I just hope when karma catches up to Michael, Joey, Lisa, Dwayne, and all pigeon exploiters, that it is as merciless as they are towards their victims.

It doesn't matter what kind of sick event or activity they are being exploited for, whether racing, dove releases, or breeding; ALL PIGEON EXPLOITATION is abuse, and it will never be ethical or acceptable to people who ACTUALLY care about these birds the way their abusers claim they do. I'm not done with Michael Scott. He WILL be dealt with. For now, I will continue to expose him for who he REALLY is; an animal abusing coward.

Two weeks ago, we said goodbye to Sophia, our dog of almost 6 years. She was our second foster dog, and almost single-handedly, she started our love of senior dogs, the “gremlins” with attitude problems and medical problems, a love we share with so many of our friends in the animal rescue community.

Our memories of New York overlap with our memories of her: She went to Brighton Beach with us one summer and barked for minutes at a pair of men fist fighting on the train home. She was the flower girl at our wedding, honoring our friends with the privilege of holding her as we danced in a basement speakeasy all night. She came to work with us, at different clinics she slept on the laps of front desk workers where clients would say she looked like a baby deer, or an anteater, maybe some kind of fucked up fox. She perked up when certain staff walked by, the ones who covertly shared their breakfast sandwiches with her each morning, shaking with anticipation at the smell of eggs and sausage.

She seemed to invite that kind of attention, making people fall in love with her like that wherever she went. On the train, at bars, or even on the street, people stopped to say hi. “She has no teeth,” we would tell people, feeling compelled somehow to stop them from offering food she couldn’t handle (once she grabbed a spinach leaf off the floor and ran to chew on it behind the toilet, unable to chew it up). Whipped cream and fruit juice were better, she loved them until we had to wipe the mess off her face.

She was loud, vocal, like a lot of Chihuahuas. At home, she barked like an old woman yelling when anyone broke her “rules”: no clapping, no running or jumping, no bending at the waist. No sweeping, mopping, or vacuuming.

It’s easier to remember the way that she was before her mind and vision declined, trotting in the sun, smelling tulips, barking at chaos, ready to jump in our arms and follow us into whatever car or train would take us to the next adventure. As long as she was with us, she was ready.

I wish I could thank her for being there for us the way only a dog can be. I wish I could tell her: I love you, I miss you, it is so, so quiet here without you. by @_hillarymiller

The Life of Showgirl hasn’t been easy. She was brought to @nycacc only days old, alone (no mom or siblings ) and wasn’t eating on her own. When we got their plea to pull her, we acted immediately, knowing that she would need around-the-clock care. Luckily, her first foster _hillarymiller has lots of experience with medical care, so they took on the tiring task of tube-feeding her every three hours, then bottle feeding her for weeks, and we held our breath as she grew.

Turns out, Showgirl was made for the spotlight! Over the last two months, she’s become a pretty, witty puppy who has no idea that she beat the odds. Showgirl is playful, funny, energetic and ready for that forever kind of love. Two weeks ago, she moved over to @katieandtatesfostermates to learn from their resident dog and is thriving!

Her Wi$h Li$t for an adopter? Someone who will be dedicated to continuing her socialization and training, and is ok with having a pup with a few quirks. We’re not sure how Showgirl ended up at the shelter, but we know life is looking bright for her moving forward.

Registered adopters can email adoptionmeetings@muddypawsrescue.org to express interest in Showgirl! Not registered yet? Get that started at muddypawsrescue.org/adopt. taken in New York, New York by @_hillarymiller

i’m so proud of strawberrie’s transformation ❤️‍🩹

from an overheated, obese, shut down dog at Manhattan @nycacc to a silly, playful, snuggly girl thriving in a foster home. all she needed was a little baby talk and a stuffed toy to start to open up. If it were up to berrie, she’d have a bath everyday and if you leave the shower door open she *will* jump in 🫧

she got to a healthy weight and was able to have her upper airway surgery today. i’m so happy she’ll be breathing better soon. you’re a very special girl, miss berrie 🍓 @muddypawsrescuenyc taken in New York, New York by @_hillarymiller

At first…I was a little scared. Even nervous. “Who are these humans in my home?” I crawled over real slow like, “Wait… do I know you?” Because it’s been a while, and my bulldog memory was trying to connect the dots.

But then… I sniffed. I felt the love.
And it hit me—THESE are the humans who helped save me. My tail did the wiggly-waggle thing, and the rest is history.

Hilary and Matt believed in me before I had a forever home. Before the couch naps, the fancy treats, and my big main character energy…

They saw something special in me when I didn’t even know how loved I could be.

Today was a full-circle moment. I gave them all the kisses. All the love. All the Wilbur drama. Because family isn’t just who you live with—it’s who shows up for you when it matters most.

Thank you, Hilary & Matt, for being my first heroes. You’ll always be part of my story—and my heart.

Snorts, cuddles, and side-eye,
Wilbur the Bulldog
