Nash’s face is the vibe we were going for on this trip to Lake Tahoe! Have fun and enjoy the sunshine, then take an epic nap afterwards.

Have you ever tried paddle boarding through class 2 rapids with 2 people and a dog? Us neither, but we did it!

A girl, a rock, a lake, and a shoe with a phone in it to capture it all.

The 3:30 wake-up was rough but the escarpment at western states is always worth it!

Pass Mountain 50 Mile - 9 hours 16 minutes
4th place overall, 2nd place age group, and new 50 Mile PR!
Closing out the racing season on a high note with a race that felt so special - I got to see the results of the work that’s been done all year, and really feel it on the course. Things like my Z2 HR pace, my uphill running ability, fueling, and mentality have been growing so much, and getting a taste of what’s to come in the future has me fired up!
While I know the race could’ve been better (hard to be fully recovered from running 100 miles in only one month) the way that things went got me super excited for next year’s racing season!
Spending the race with so many family and friends just made things even greater!
What a blessing it is to have a body capable of doing so much!

Getting stoked for @aravaiparunning #passmtn50 this weekend! 50 Miles in Mesa, AZ!
It’ll be nice to be running on dry trails for a change! The build up has been good, the legs are feeling fresh, and I’m itching to go fast!

@chaseprice said don’t knock it till you try it… well I tried it!
I’ve been looking for new ways to dig out of the pain cave so I’m not stuck there for 60 miles (like at Kodiak), and having one song on repeat till I’m out and feeling good is a new tool to use!
Thanks for joining on the shenanigans! by @_iamconnorjames

I’m constantly astounded by how our bodies are designed to adapt so quickly!

After everything post-race at Kodiak, I wasn’t sure how my body was going to recover. After all it was my first 100 and only a couple years into running at all. The first week was slow going, but after 2 weeks my body has begun to bounce back in incredible ways.

Speed work has felt better than ever, the legs feel stable on trails again, and I dropped a half marathon PR on a Z2 training run.

I’ve taken a lot of my time post-race to prioritize recovery - ice baths, compression massage, stretching, PT - and eating enough to help the body bounce back to full strength.

I was given the opportunity to jump in on racing @aravaiparunning Pass Mountain 50 Mile in Nov, and at first I was just going to go to take it slow and just finish… but with how the legs are trending right now it might be a proper race to the finish to close out the season!

We’ll see you in AZ soon!

As I’ve now had ample time to reflect on my experience at @kodiak_ultramarathons I felt it was important to share the highs and lows of the journey.
In this post are moments of joy early in the race, and moments of deep struggle in the back end. From mile 40 all the way till the finish I was almost entirely in the pain cave, something I was expecting to come but not planning on having it stay for the entire race.
Every moment of seeing a light at the end of the tunnel only found me heading deeper into cave - from not getting the fabled sunrise-second-wind, to having going from feeling good straight to unable to walk the final 18 miles of the race with my knees swelling.
But with it all, here’s some things I learned…
Simply just chewing food can give you life (even if you can’t eat it with a bad stomach)
Speaking your struggles out takes away their power
No quitting at aid stations
Some times you just have a rough day (and can’t catch a break mentally)
Even on the rough days you can still power through to finish
Self-talk is everything… don’t let your mind run with the lies (ex. You’re not good enough, you can’t do this, etc.)
Sour gummy worms are food for the soul
Take care of yourself early (both in life and with blisters)
Leaving it all out there and giving you best is a fluid concept… it may look different but you can still give your all.

Finally, God is present in it all, and whatever happens out there, He is using it just how He needs to.

So many good things to take into my next races! by @_iamconnorjames

ā€œI feel God’s pleasure when I runā€
This quote was written on a the back of one of my aid station cheat-sheets during the race.
Having now finished the hardest thing I’ve ever done, having the roughest day of my entire life - I can say that while it maybe didn’t always feel like pleasure, I felt God’s presence with my every step… all 165,000 of them.
There will be so much more to come as I unpack this whole experience, but for now I’ll just leave a message for myself, same as what was on the back of another one of my cards - ā€œI’m proud of you, kid… no matter what.ā€
Huge thank you’s to my wonderful bride and stellar crew chief @ela.reithmayr22 there is no way this would’ve happened without you - both in race and all the lead up. To the legend @vstphotography.us for always cheering me up, giving up his time, and keeping all of us mostly sane. To my family for coming out to support for their first time at a race, and to all those who followed along and sent their love and support.
Always so grateful for the work I get to do with @jackkuenzle as my coach with @evokeendurance… there has been so much growth in just 8 months that I could’ve never imagined experiencing.

Turns on top of the world…
Yesterday saw a long pursued dream come to reality! Skiing the GRAND TETON!
3 years since learning how to ski, 3 years of pushing myself in the mountains… all for a day of incredible adventure full of rotten boot packs, active waterfalls, emotional summits, and perfect corn skiing in the Ford (on very heavy legs). All in killer style!

For me, this is a big deal because my first winter in the Tetons (3 years ago) I looked up to the Grand and knew one day I wanted to ski it. It’s the first time I’ve truly spent years honing all areas of my skills to accomplish something, and here we are!!

Huge huge thank you’s to @ela.reithmayr22 for being my #1 supporter, to the wizard @brandon.wanthal for teaching me the ways of ski mountaineering since year one, and to @jackkuenzle and @evokeendurance for pushing my fitness to new levels this year.

1) Hop turns into the Ford
2) Early morning going up the Teepe
3) Summit selfie!
4) Done with the ice and on to the top
5) Topping out of the Chevy
6) SUMMIT!
7) Perfect corn and heavy legs!
8) One of many rappels on the way down

Still stoked on what a beautiful moment this was…
•
After a long winter of injuries last year, and only grabbing one big line (and getting destroyed by it), I wanted this season to be different.
•
And seeing that it’s still only March, I’m feeling super fit, and the first of my goal lines for the season is already down…
•
Something tells me it’s gonna be a great spring.
•
Thanks for following along! More to come šŸ¤™šŸ¼
