Freedom isn’t an age. It’s not a bank account balance either. It’s not the day your kids leave home or the mortgage is paid off or when the business sells.

I used to think it was.

Rich took me to Finn & Fire last night and for the first time in a while I didn’t work through the meal, didn’t take a call, didn’t post from the table.

Just ate slow, laughed loud, and let myself be there.

New wig, new season, same lesson I keep having to relearn.

The version of me building the Wanzer family office already gets to show up now, in pieces, in nights like this.

What’s ONE rule on your current board you didn’t write? I was listening to a Myron Golden video today and one line stopped me…

“You’re a pawn on someone else’s board until you design your own” and I had to sit with it because it might be the truest thing I’ve heard in a while.

The W-2 professional thinking quitting is the escape is still a pawn, the solopreneur who went out on their own and built another job is a pawn on a different board, the agent grinding $150K in commissions with no passive income in sight is a pawn, the consultant charging by the hour who can’t figure out why the money never scales is a pawn.

I’ve been all of them.

Most of us were taught to save. Almost none of us were taught to own.

So we earn. We grind. We do everything right. And at some point we look up and realize the paycheck is paying the bills, but nothing is building us a life that keeps running when we stop.

Supporting women isn’t a moment. It’s a habit.

Last night I attended a Meet the Team event with the Washington Mystics, and I left thinking about how much that support compounds in sports and in business.

Listening to these athletes talk about their careers made something obvious: talent was never the missing piece. Investment was. Visibility was. People deciding to show up, consistently, was.

The same is true in business. Women-led teams don’t need a spotlight moment. They need capital, contracts, seats at the table, and partners who keep showing up when it isn’t a campaign season.

And then there’s the setting. Seeing what’s been built in Southeast the arenas, the businesses around them, the energy in the neighborhood is honestly mind blowing. That development didn’t happen by accident. It happened because someone invested in a community others had written off.

Same principle. Different arena.
