A wrap up for this year's @collectiblefair New York, again alongside @_jessegroom_ . Really exciting for the chance to show this new lighting collection-- My Grandpa Once Taught Me How to Fly A Kite-- a body of work I began earlier this year, filled with memories, dreams, and love. The dandelion represents something deeply misunderstood and demonized, labeled a nuisance and fit only for removal. Its many uses and potential is too often overlooked by a world determined to see “weed-less” lawns.
ROCA is an organization working in cities across the east coast to identify and reach out directly to individuals at high risk of violence. They give the resources they need and help them avoid the circumstances which make it more likely to be trapped in our country’s disabling incarceration system.

At Collectible this past week i had the privilege of showing with a group of artist in a booth curated by Cissy @yuxuan_huang__ and Mimi @mimi_objects

Named @theobjectboutique, this exhibition centers on craft and materiality. The curated boutique presents vessels and furniture that celebrate intentional spatial design and the beauty of handmade objects.

last year i made this for a great show in LA curated by my friend @spenseratlas, and used it as an opportunity to explore the material/process outside of the bulkier shape/forms i frequently gravitate towards. I tried using aluminum flashing as a substrate so that it could morph itself as much as it wanted, but i found it too thin to use in future projects, mostly just blasting str8 through and struggling. The best welders apparently can weld aluminum foil pieces together. I will not be one of those, nor feel the desire to be but this just made me appreciate that skill even more. i forget where im at in the 10,000 hour idiom continuum, but more practice has often been feeling like less perfect. Not mad at that tho!

A new piece, Oh Uh Ladder, stands to question the path “upward,” and will be shown alongside work by 14 other artists from New York’s creative community. I feel it is a rare opportunity to be asked to apply our love for craft and design to thoughts about the social, economic, and political climate we are in, and so I can’t thank these curators enough for including me in this show. Im not so naïve to think these objects will be the MacGuffins (?)to catalyze the change we wish to see in the world, especially not when wide scale peaceful protest and voting don’t seem to do a gotdamn thing, but it’s nice, for even just a lil, to apply my limited skillset to a wider lens.
The already endless list of woes gets longer by the day, but we’re out here celebrating the love of vision and craft together, and THAT is a beautiful thing. taken in Radio Star by @_jessegroom_
