A group of everyday people step into the chapters on war, which many readers skimmed through in War and Peace. They have questions: What is war? What does it feel like to be in a war? Why does war happen? How can we tell who has won? They examine the battles, reenact moments, play characters, and invite you to witness with them what happened then and is happening now.

War is an ancient craft that takes blood and sagacity. It is also shaped by forces from all strata of society and is a lot more than winning a game. We memorialize war. We hide wars in plain sight. We have many anti-war ideas and they stay as ideas.

Project Description
War and Peace. Places of War. is an original theatre performance after Tolstoy’s War and Peace and inspired by Erwin Piscator’s production. It traces the movement of war from small and big perspectives through multiple movement and performance forms, and zooms in on situations in which time and space begin to blur. Performers will be working as an ensemble to explore collective narration, movement, character, tasks and games, and interaction with the audience. The process is a hybrid of ensemble devising and director’s theatre. by @_jingdong

🎭We are doing a work-in-progress sharing of Slow Dance this Sunday at Queens Museum. RSVP in Bio.

👭Based on our personal experiences of living with chronic illnesses, this piece is the fruit of our two-year on-and-off devising process. Jiawen and I are thrilled to share it with an audience for the first time. We hope you can come see it and share your thoughts with us!
