On Thursday Silejo reciprocated the ‘art of noticing’ - supported by the Leeds Critical Digital Practice Lab. The intent was grounded in gathering; intersectional connection, politics, ecological solidarity, creative agency.Thank you Meanwood Valley Urban Farm for hosting and feeding us for this special day. And to the Silejo peers (near and far), expanding web of generous artists, researchers, art-therapists, students, writers, local community stalwarts come comrades who participated, and passer-bys who asked questions about what we were messing through together.1 Group gratitude photo by local person picking up veggie box. 🫂2 - 4 Brush making and mapping family-friend-community interconnections w/ natural dyes. Kaajal @casualmouldy explaining their fermenting plant material process 🫜5 - 7 Part I of Commoning and & [Co] Sensing Thought Forms pulling from Annie Besant’s theosophical approach to spiritual language and nature. 👁️‍🗨️8 - 11 Sculpting with Nature guided by Tasnim @tasnimsiddiqaamin. We were invited to explore our relationship with land and power through a queer lens and material ‘collaging’ - considering how our bodies can be incorporated into the sculpture. 💈12 - 14 Plant Switching II. Joanne Armitage @joannnnela of CDP Lab led us in the digitisation of plant–human connections through the creation of simple soft-circuit switches. We reflected on how reducing these relationships to digital logic can flatten the complexity, reciprocity. It inspired poetry, performance and reimagining humans as nature 🌱15. Introduction rounds. ⭕️16 - 19 the art of noticing things. Bo @bosedaolawoye guided us on a walking* activity where we wandered, explored and sensed the farm. In Bosnian, ‘sijelo’ refers to an intimate social gathering; a space of shared presence, conversation, storytelling, music, and hospitality. For the members of the art collective named after it, these things are essential in creating art, and by extension, hope. A group of artists, creatives, and activists based in the United Kingdom, Sijelo Collective is a satellite partner of the If Trees Could Talk International Art Biennale dedicated to addressing the intertwined challenges of displacement, racial justice, and climate justice. In this interview, the artists involved in the biennale talk about using creativity as a tool for social change, the questions that brought them together, why art necessitates intersectionality, and how they find hope in a time of growing authoritarianism. Interwoven: A pilot activation led by artist Kim Chin (@_kim.chin), curated by Charmaine Wah (@charcharwah)📍Kindred Studios, 326 Kensal Rd, London W10 5BS🪡 26th July, Sunday, 11am - 1pmInterwoven invites our Southeast Asian (SEA) diasporic community in the UK to join us in an intergenerational workshop exploring resilience, well-being and connection.Artist Kim Chin will guide us through simple reflective exercises on our decision-making and emotional and physical responses to stress, joy and resilience. We will then engage in a fun, hands-on weaving activity that participants can take home to remember the day. Comfort breaks throughout the workshop are encouraged. 🪾🌳🌴The Art of Noticing with Silejo CollectiveThursday 23 July10 am - 5 pmSupported by Critical Digital Practice Lab (CDP Lab)“Noticing is trying to take those blinders off to look at the world around us, with special attention to the more-than-human world (by which I mean the human plus non-human world).” – Anna TsingSilejo is a collective of womxn artists, creatives and activists dedicated to addressing the intertwined challenges of displacement, racial justice, and climate justice gathers. Our Collective is a continuation of our shared journey with a group of womxn practitioners that began in November 2023 — one built on connections around collaboration, creativity, and radical care. Together, we will continue to shape this space, allowing our practices to speak of our own and each other’s work. Our satellite approach for the 2nd If Trees Could Talk International Art Biennale* is grounded in connection and gathering. 🌞 A massive cheers!🌀What a whirlwind of a week/end and the mammoth organization of studio team, artists, curators, volunteers, chefs, hospitality, security staff, friends and family alongside the wider public that made my first Open Studios at Kindred Studios x Kensington + Chelsea Art Fringe, a memorable one. Over 4300 passed through the gates to meet us!✨First dedication to mama whose recollection of experiences and line of ancestors I will be forever discovering, while accepting contradictions as memory fades and the unknown gaps of unanswered questions. My longing for roots in Filipine, Jamaican and Chinese lands in relationship to Euro-American colonization are my life’s work and responsibility not to forget.🌿Taiye Idahor @greenpaintbowl brought the biscuits, motivated the chill while sorting out artwork set up and finessed our diddy space 🦋🙏🕸️Special thanks to Zhang Hailun @zhanghailun.curatorialartlife whose curatorial concept for Web of Life exhibition placed Floating Points, 2025, within the wider discussion of art as a vehicle to connect and provoke our human responsibility to earth and each other. Exhibition on show in the Kindred | Gramophone Works gallery space until 7 September 2026.📽️Patricia Taveres for timely answering the callout for projector and serendipitously have our work displayed opposite each other. 🔨To the Courtauld students who pieced and paired studio artist works together to spotlight our space/practice - working together with Roberts’s to ensure installation was complete.🪡A well deserved high five to fellow Common Thread project artist Linnéa Duckworth @linnea.duckworth for cohosting a jam packed workshop, Threads of Care, to adults and minis who had clear visions of what they wanted to make.So many events, performances and interventions I didn’t get to visit let alone capture. 🌞🌞🌞Our studios are open!Three highlights to look out for:🌊Floating Points, 2025, is included in our group exhibition, Web of Life, curated by Zhang Hailun.It was originally commissioned for A World of Islands: Storms, Palms & Coconuts, curated by Ligaya Salazar by Stanley Picker Gallery and Ateneo Art Gallery. It sat alongside two other pieces collectively titled “Memory Debris: A Tourist in My Mother’s Land”. Rooted in transnational Filipino ancestry, these three films worked in conversation with each other; looking at process, labour, geography, climate degradation, memory, ancestry and non-linear time.🪬Threads of Care Stitching workshop cohosted with Linnéa Duckworth as part of our Kindred Community offering, Common Thread Project. Sunday only 3 - 5 pm | 3rd Floor. Free with sign up sheets on the day. Drop-in welcome based on capacity.🖼️Floor 1 curated hang by students studying at the Courtauld Institute of Art.
