More than a decade ago, the incomparable Dorothy Rudd Moore told me, “If you want to write, baby, just write.” I took her at her word, and the music continues to open doors I never imagined.

I’m so honored to join the Recording Academy’s Class of 2026. Thank you @kennardgarrett and @tamtunes for your unwavering support, encouragement and love.

I’m so excited for this new chapter and I look forward to joining the conversations that advocate for artists and help shape the future of our industry.

⛪️ Black Composers You Should Know

"Ave Maria" by B.E. Boykin

B. E. Boykin is an American composer, vocalist, and scholar whose work engages sacred texts and themes through contemporary choral writing. Her background includes classical training alongside deep study of Black sacred music traditions, and her compositions are frequently informed by questions of history, identity, and lineage.

Boykin’s Ave Maria sets the traditional Latin prayer that has been used in Christian worship for centuries and has inspired countless musical settings. Her composition contributes to this long tradition by offering a modern choral treatment of the text, situating it within today’s choral repertoire while maintaining the prayer’s original structure and liturgical significance.

Enjoy this performance by the Young New Yorker's Chorus and Emily Crowe Sobotko
