We got attached.

Always something a bit magical about getting the Woolwich ferry home after seeing friends 'south of the river'.

Flashback pt. 1 (2 weeks ago).
In which, after 3 attempts since c2012, I finally got to visit the Atomium. Worth a visit inside for the exhibition detailing its construction and immediate context (Expo 58) and for thinking about parallels with the 1951 Festival of Britain. And a very good post visit read for some wider context: Dennis Pohl's 2021 paper (open access,J of History and Tchnology) 'Uranium exposed at Expo 58: the colonial agenda behind the peaceful atom'.

Next stop, Berlin.

** Flag making for convivial water relations**

On day two of Water Chronicles LIVE - I led a free public drop in workshop, with participants making flags with scrap fabric: taking inspiration from the International Code of Signals for the use of all Nations, for communicating without borders and for convivial more than human conversation. Thanks to everyone who came and created, and to @rock_ballard for support

The flags then flew above Fluvial Chorus, a workshop exploring the voice as a portal to ecosystem collaboration with @hannah_mary_white, then listening pieces and performances by Margarida Mendes, Jol Toms, @Blanc_sceol, Richard Wilson and Sheill - Wilson -Thompson

Water Chronicles LIVE is led by @blancsceol (@hannah_mary_white and @stephen_shiell), a collaboration with @insola_berlin and their floating art platform. The flags (and the two banners created at @Surge_coop July eco-gathering) will travel back to London in September for a series of events with @Insola.berlin - more details to follow

**This project is funded by Cultural Bridge, which celebrates bilateral artistic partnerships between the UK and Germany**

Around the scaffolding flags sewn into a long line are strung. There are also gongs and drums attached to the structure taken in Spree River, Berlin by @_laraband

Hoisted (and the hoisting): *In gentle kinship with water*, from one river to another, Channelsea to the Spree

Banners that started as squares of fabric painted with Channelsea river mud @surge_coop July eco-gathering, dyed with damp loving meadowsweet and scrap iron, stitched into 4m long banners. Part of Water Chronicles LIVE : a project led by @surge_coop's @hannah_mary_white and @stephen_shiell (artist duo @blancsceol), in collaboration with @insola.berlin, and funded by the Cultural Bridge which celebrates bilateral artistic partnerships between the UK and Germany.

Thx to
@blanc_sceol for inviting me to lead flag making workshops in London, and Berlin (next post)
@rockballard for stalwart assistance and 📷 1-5
@insola.berlin for installation help
@theoutsidedyers for dyestuffs and advice
