Feeling gratitude right now for these opportunities. I got to learn from one of the best, the LEGEND Kevin Kao. It’s been a while since I’ve made time in my life for this type of professional development. And it was great being back at Arrowmont and visiting my old studio, now occupied by the great. ❗️New Exhibition Opening Tomorrow (Saturday) 4-8pm❗️
LISA BARE (@_lbsee_ )
“Black Birds” 🐦‍⬛

From Lisa:

I have been a potter for 30 years. Knowing myself and the way I like to work, I would say this:

“When my life is calm, my work is complicated... and vice versa”

Clay is one of the most important grounding forces in my life. In times of personal struggle, I tend to strip everything down, looking for a peaceful spot. In those times the work is usually functional pottery, simple forms with quiet unadorned surfaces.

So, when you look at the pieces in Black Birds, you can surmise that I am in a good place. This work is not quiet or simple. The pieces are not even all made of clay. Many are not glazed but painted with oils and shuffled with found objects.

These pieces tell a story, the story of how I got to that good place in my life. The story is about finding strength in yourself and being healed by nature, birds, family and art.

Please come see me in November at Adamah Ceramics in the Short North. Here are a few details….
Black Birds is a collection of recent sculptures that tells a story of healing the heart by simply being around nature and family. It is my very own story. by @_lbsee_
