I remember the pencil sharpener by the basement stairs—it was part of my homework routine to sharpen pencils there. Now, I have the one I grew up with, in my studio. It brings back childhood memories. I miss my parents, but gosh darn-it they kept some amazing stuff! Art work by @_lbsee_

❗️New Exhibition Opening Tomorrow (Saturday) 4-8pm❗️

“Black Birds” 🐦‍⬛

From Lisa:

I have been a potter for 30 years. Knowing myself and the way I like to work, I would say this:

“When my life is calm, my work is complicated... and vice versa”

Clay is one of the most important grounding forces in my life. In times of personal struggle, I tend to strip everything down, looking for a peaceful spot. In those times the work is usually functional pottery, simple forms with quiet unadorned surfaces.

So, when you look at the pieces in Black Birds, you can surmise that I am in a good place. This work is not quiet or simple. The pieces are not even all made of clay. Many are not glazed but painted with oils and shuffled with found objects.

These pieces tell a story, the story of how I got to that good place in my life. The story is about finding strength in yourself and being healed by nature, birds, family and art.

Today was so special!! 💕 Molly graduated High School surrounded by her family, friends, and teachers at Linworth Experiential Program. I am obviously so proud of her accomplishments, but I’m more impressed with her big heart, and how she showed up for her peers in the sweetest way possible. I am completely blown away by her amazing personality and loving soul. I am so very fortunate to have taken part in creating this incredible human being. Oh, the places you will go, my Love. @coffin.sludge @coffinsludgetattoos

Join us Saturday May 4th from 6:00pm - 7:30pm for an image transfer workshop with Lisa Bare! Registration link can be found in bio!

Lisa Ann Bare (she/her) is a clay artist and the owner of Bareclay Studio, a teaching pottery studio in Columbus of 25 years. She is a Columbus native and is a graduate of the Columbus College of Art and Design in Fine Arts/Ceramics. Making the joy and experience of ceramics accessible to all is one of the primary goals of her professional

In this 90 minute workshop, students will construct a slab built slump bowl out of clay. They start with stiff clay and use underglaze decals to add tons of surface imagery and texture to the flat slab. Participants will have a variety of images to choose from, they can overlap or use them to make little realistic scenes. Once students are happy with their designs, they can use a slumping method to shape the slab into an existing form, making it a bowl. This is a class for beginners and beyond. No clay experience is necessary but the end result is amazing. Adamah Ceramics will fire bowls after drying and they will be dipped in a clear, food safe glaze. Items can be picked up within 2-3 weeks after the workshop.

This workshop will take place during Gallery Hop on May 4th from 6:00pm - 7:30pm and is $40 per person.
