Flamingos are basically the wanderers of Kenya’s Rift Valley.

Near Gilgil, they’re often seen around Lake Elementaita, but they don’t stay in one place forever. They move between the soda lakes — Elementaita, Nakuru, Bogoria, Naivasha, and even as far as Lake Natron — following the things that keep them alive: algae, water levels, salinity, and the changing chemistry of the lakes.

It’s not a simple seasonal migration like you’d expect. It’s more like they read the lake itself.

When the water changes, they move.
When the food shifts, they move.
When the algae blooms somewhere else, the sky can suddenly fill with pink.

Most of the flamingos in this area are lesser flamingos, feeding on tiny algae that also gives them their pink color. Young flamingos are actually grayish-white at first — they earn that pink over time through their diet.

There’s something beautiful about that.
A bird that changes color because of what it survives on.
A flock that moves because the land tells them to.

Kenya’s Rift Valley is wild in the quietest ways. Sometimes it’s not the big animals that stop you in your tracks — sometimes it’s thousands of pink birds standing in a shallow lake, reminding you how alive this place really is.

Iceland is covered in vibrant green moss that has taken centuries to grow, transforming ancient volcanic rock into one of the most surreal landscapes I’ve ever seen. Research has shown that spending time surrounded by nature and the color green can reduce stress, improve mood, and boost creativity. Standing here, with a glacial river carving its way through the canyon below, I could understand why. Moments like this are why I keep chasing the next adventure.

Nelson Ghost Town is a hidden gem tucked away in the mountains of southern Nevada. The town of Nelson was founded in the mid-19th century during the gold rush. The town quickly grew thanks to the discovery of gold and other valuable minerals. Over time, after the deposits were exhausted, Nelson gradually turned into a ghost town. Today, it is a popular tourist destination, where you can see the remains of buildings and tools for mining minerals.

Interestingly, the “remains” of Nelson are privately owned and the attraction operates thanks to small fees collected from visiting tourists and photographers, among whom the place is popular.

It’s $1 a person to walk around for longer than 15 minutes and trust me, you’ll be walking around for longer than that.
There’s so many old buildings, gas, pumps, antique cars, and even an airplane in the ground! There’s also gold mining tours for an extra fee.

Every October, the little town of Damariscotta, Maine, holds one of the most unusual races I’ve ever seen! People actually hollow out giant pumpkins, climb inside them, and race them down the river!

It’s called the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta, and some of these pumpkins weigh over 900 pounds! Some people paddle their pumpkins while others attach little motors. And of course, there are all kinds of funny costumes involved!

The tradition started back in 2005 with just one pumpkin boat and has grown into a whole festival celebrating everything pumpkin. There are giant pumpkin displays, decorated pumpkins throughout town, and even a competition for the biggest one.

I love coming across little towns with fun traditions like this when we travel. I mean, who was the first person to look at a giant pumpkin and decide it would make a good boat?! 😂

Would you get inside one of these and try to race it?

Did you know there are five giant trolls hiding in the woods along the coast of Maine? 🌲

We visited the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay to see these incredible wooden sculptures. They’re part of an exhibit called Guardians of the Seeds, created by Danish artist Thomas Dambo.

What makes them even more interesting is that they’re built from recycled wood and other reclaimed materials! Thomas Dambo has created giant trolls all over the world, and each one has its own personality and story.

The five trolls are scattered throughout the gardens and woods, with walking trails connecting them. Some are tucked away among the trees, and they’re all so different from one another. It’s pretty incredible to see just how massive these sculptures are in person!

Have you ever seen one of these giant trolls?

Take her to Scotland and thank me later. Trust me.

Misty lochs, storm-blown cliffs and the cutest animals you can imagine. Where every scene reads like her favorite romance novel and she can be the main character.

Cold days that lead to hot nights (in the cozy, non-graphic way). Think brooding castles, stolen kisses under ancient arches, and fireplaces that make cuddling with a whiskey basically mandatory.

Plenty of nooks and crannies to coorie and canoodle.
Do it for the plot and for the ending... and thank me later.

Travertine Hot Springs near Bridgeport, California. ♨️

This place was such a cool find! The hot mineral water comes out of the ground and flows over the hillside, slowly building up layers of travertine and creating all of these crazy colors and formations.

There are several little natural pools scattered around the area, and the temperatures are all a little different depending on how close they are to the hot water source. We found a good one and soaked with the Sierra Nevada mountains in the background.

I think hot springs might be one of my favorite things to find when we travel. Especially when they’re out in the middle of nowhere and completely natural like this one. ❤️

Be honest… are you soaking at the resort, or are you climbing into the random hot spring in the middle of nowhere with me? 😂♨️

One of the coolest things about Joshua Tree is how much strange, unexpected art is scattered through the desert.

Just outside town is the Noah Purifoy Outdoor Desert Art Museum, a huge open-air collection of more than 100 sculptures made from things most people would have thrown away — old tires, toilets, TVs, metal, wood, bicycles and all kinds of random discarded objects.

There are no gallery walls or polished displays. You just wander through the desert from one massive assemblage to the next, trying to figure out what you’re looking at and somehow finding something new every few feet.

Noah Purifoy believed discarded objects could be turned into something meaningful, and after years sitting out here in the Mojave sun, wind and sand, the desert has almost become part of the artwork itself.

It’s weird, creative, a little eerie and exactly the kind of roadside desert stop I love.

And somehow… even the toilets are art. 😂

My dad has always had a green thumb and has spent so much of his life outside growing the most beautiful flowers. Even at 94, he still goes out to his garden every day, although these days he needs a little more help keeping up with it.

Some of my favorite moments are when we go out together and pick flowers for bouquets. He loves choosing them with me, and he gets just as excited when I bring my camera out to photograph everything that’s blooming.

I’ve always thought of his flowers as his masterpieces. Taking photos of them feels like a way of making a few masterpieces of my own. ❤️🌸📷

I never get tired of seeing what he’s grown.

The 1886 Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs has been called one of the most haunted hotels in America. 👻

Room 218, known as Michael’s Room, is considered the most haunted room in the hotel. Michael was an Irish stonemason who reportedly fell to his death during construction, and guests have been telling stories about strange activity in the room ever since.

We had no idea our family had booked us Room 218.

We came around the corner and saw a crowd gathered around the door. Our family had already walked past and was standing at the end of the hall laughing while we figured out exactly what room they had booked for us. 😂

They also told us Michael supposedly has a thing for pretty girls who stay in the room… and doesn’t always want them to leave.

As for my experience, I’m still not sure if it was all in my head or not. We definitely didn’t sleep well.

Before bed, Aaron pulled the bedding out from under the mattress. During the night, I woke up feeling like I couldn’t lift my feet because the covers felt tightly tucked in again.

I woke Aaron up and asked him to check. When he got up, the covers were completely untucked and totally normal.

All I could think was… is Michael sitting at the bottom of the bed because he doesn’t want me to leave? 😳😂👻
