Hello! Lovely to meet you

I'm a British fantasy author of character-driven stories and epic adventure. My books contain dragons, world-shattering magic, and the hope we all carry even in the darkest times.

I've been a finalist and semi-finalist in SPFBO, published twenty books, and two of my short stories have appeared in anthologies.

I live in a tiny village in the English countryside, have a degree in Psychology, and was a professional copywriter before going full-time as an author--swapping corporate copy for dragons!

Best wishes and happy reading,

Lauren 💙🔥 by @_llmacrae

In addition to daydreaming and getting lost in the worlds I read and create, I'm a full on foodie! I have highlight reels dedicated to my sweet treats, adore baking as much as cooking, and one of my happy places is kitchenware and gadgets (my other half bought me an industrial KitchenAid in 2026--love him so much!)

There's so much food I adore, from sushi to shawarma, pies to profiteroles, and travelling to try new foods is 90% of why I leave my house 😆😆 by @_llmacrae

Animals, nature, and conservation are all hugely important to me. Birds are a particular love, and I can spend hours watching them flit around my garden, or soar overhead on the warm thermals.

As such, they are often deeply important in my writing, from the nature spirits of my Dragon Spirits trilogy, to the dragon species being influenced by British birds in Memories of Fire

I'm neurodivergent (often considered 'the weird one' in a room), but it's led to some huge passions being fundamental parts of my creativity 💙💙 by @_llmacrae

✨️Indie tbr progress update✨️

At the start of the year, I chose around 30 indie books to read for the year. I've made progress on some of that list, but as expected, the tbr grew bigger than I could manage.

Here are my 2026 reads/purchases/gifts.. with some 72 books on the list.

❓️Does our tbr/bookshelf seem similar?

When authors write, we mix what has inspired us, what our passions are, and add our own twist to storytelling. This blend will help you get to know my writing! 🔥🔥

What do you think? Does your taste in books match my style? 🤔🤔

Which authors inspire you? Is it something in their books that just speaks to you? Let me know! 📚📚 by @_llmacrae

How would you like a teaser of the upcoming MEMORIES OF FIRE QUARTET? How about a beautifully formatted ebook sample of FAITHLESS GODS? 👀👀

Includes the pantheon, prologue, and first chapter - just enough to whet your appetite for what's to come 🔥🔥

✨Teaser blurb ✨

Levin Trent and his pied crow familiar, Sawdust, get into trouble more often than not. When he encounters an idol of a god supposedly killed by Reaper dragons, he learns he can't talk himself out of every mess.

Now, Levin is part of a world-changing plot filled with powerful mages, skin-walkers, and the gods themselves. Put one foot wrong, and everything he loves will burn to ash.

And that's a wrap on my Canadian Thanksgiving shout-outs! (Bonuse round... 2)

I wanted to end this series by showing some more love to indie authors. There are so many incredible books out there, and I'm really glad I've had the chance to discover so many of the authors behind them. It's been great getting to share some of these authors with you throughout the series!

A special thank you to the authors featured today for sharing your creativity with readers and giving us new stories to fall in love with. Every book starts with an idea, and it's always exciting to see those ideas turn into something readers can experience for themselves.

I've had a lot of fun putting these shout-outs together, and I hope you've enjoyed following along! It's been a lovely way to celebrate the indie book world, and I'm excited to keep discovering new authors and their books as I go.

If you're looking for your next read, take a look at these authors and give them a follow! You might just find your next favourite book.

Recent book mail! 📚📚

This isn't a huge haul as I've cut down massively on buying physical books, but I could not resist these two!

Fall Red Empire is the highly anticipated finale to fellow SPFBO Finalist, Kerstin Espinosa Rosero's Burn Red Skies trilogy!

We have dragons, airships, smugglers, elemental magic, less conventional characters, swordsuits, and some of the most fun and unique world building I've ever come across! 🔥🔥

I'm a huge fan of Ken Liu - from the Dandelion Dynasty to the Paper Menagerie, he knows how to tell stories that'll emotionally punch you in the gut.

So I had to treat myself to this beautiful, numbered edition 💙💙

Have you read either of these? They should definitely be on your tbr if not!

What was the last bookmail you got? 🤔🤔 by @_llmacrae
