Foodie Lauren is happiest at the seaside. With a book. And also a pot of tea. She writes about dragons, mostly.

One things for certain…She’s optimistic! 😅

Here’s 10 books I WOULD LIKE to finish before the end of 2026. Let’s be honest I can’t even commit to what I’m having for dinner so the likelihood of this happening is slimmer than an Essex bird on Ozempic.

Thank you for the tag @ovium_reads @what_clairereads have tagged a few but as always no pressure 🫶🏼

☆☆☆☆☆ Rise of a Sky Pirate by L.L. MacRae ( @_llmacrae )

L.L. MacRae has firmly earned a place among my favourite authors, so I was very excited to step into her World of Linaria. And this was a fantastic introduction!

As a prequel novella, it's naturally quite short, so there isn't room for huge amounts of character development or detailed world-building. But I didn't mind that at all. It gives you a great taste of the setting, introduces some intriguing characters, and leaves you wanting more.

We follow Amarah, a stubborn teenage girl who has run far from home looking for a better life. She makes some seriously questionable decisions and had me mentally shouting at her more than once. But that's also what makes her so entertaining. She's not a chosen one who wins every fight, just someone trying to find somewhere she belongs while struggling to trust others.

I also loved the wonderfully mismatched group around her. Different goals, trust issues, bickering, and unlikely alliances make for plenty of fun.

And the world itself? Airships, pirates, magic, different races, and, of course, the author's signature touch: dragons. They are huge and genuinely dangerous, while the battles are fast, vivid, and exciting without becoming overly gory.

My only complaint is that I wanted more. The novella leaves some characters and parts of the world less developed, but honestly, it just made me more curious about the main series.

I'm definitely continuing with Linaria. I can't wait to see what comes next!

The novella is free when you sign up to the author's mailing list. So, if you're curious about the series, there's really no better way to get your first taste of Linaria.

Would airships and terrifying dragons be enough to convince you to pick this up?

✨️Indie tbr progress update✨️

At the start of the year, I chose around 30 indie books to read for the year. I've made progress on some of that list, but as expected, the tbr grew bigger than I could manage.

Here are my 2026 reads/purchases/gifts.. with some 72 books on the list.

❓️Does our tbr/bookshelf seem similar?

New Book Alert! Finally going to dig into The Riftwar Saga by Raymond E. Feist. The single volume edition of Magician is not available in the US so I ordered the UK edition of the trilogy.

Also got The Dragon Spirits series by @_llmacrae . Was told these were a must have by my book pimp @tez_hobbknobbooks . Also got the prequel called The Citrine Key on the Kindle store. I might jump into this series after I finish The Tides that Reign series by @rdpires_author

So many books and not enough time!

I have been an avid follower of Lauren's work since running into her at comic con and being introduced to her World of Linaria series. Her obsession with dragons heavily outweighs my own and I love her for it!
Can't wait to dig into this series.
