A prayer for all of us 🇵🇷

A cleansing.
A protection.
A calling for light when things feel heavy.

As Puerto Ricans, we know joy and struggle have always lived side by side. We celebrate, we mourn, we create, we resist, we dance, we rebuild. Sometimes all at once.

Today, I offer this as a prayer for Puerto Rico, for our people, and for anyone carrying something heavy right now.

May what needs to be washed away, be washed away.
May what needs to be healed, be healed.
May what needs protection, be protected.

Thank you to Hector Lavoe and all those who carried this music before us.

to the people I love for being less present and communicating less. But the truth is, I’ve needed this space ….and I’ve grown to love what it’s giving me.

I understand that kind of protection differently now , why parents are so protective while they’re raising their children. For almost 2 years, I’ve been focused on raising myself, again..the way I wish I was raised, the way I wish most of us could’ve be raised. Rewiring what I’ve learned, figuring out what actually serves me, and becoming more protective of what I let back in.

Distance isn’t always disconnection. Sometimes it’s protection while something new is taking shape. by @_luithe1st

You were a big part of saving my life. When I was a kid, my grandmother was fighting to get me back from a foster home where I was being mistreated in ways that no child should ever have to experience. During that time, one of the people my grandmother leaned on most was her best friend, Titi Carmen.

And Titi Carmen was READY for me. 😂 Ready to fight, ready to show up, ready to love me. When my grandmother finally got me back, I didn’t just gain my grandmother again…I gained another family.

Titi Carmen lived downstairs from us, and there were times I practically lived in her apartment too. She held me, loved on me, made me feel special, and gave me so much of the tenderness I needed at that age. Her whole family embraced me in a way that I still carry with me now.

Seeing her again recently stopped me in my tracks. We could barely stop hugging each other. And what got me most is that she remembers me. She remembers who I was as a little boy. My personality. My pain. My light, even when it was dim.

There is something so powerful about being seen by someone who knew you before you had the words for what you were surviving.

I love you, Titi Carmen. Thank you for being part of the village that helped bring me back to myself. ❤️ by @_luithe1st
