Todd’s Timepiece
.
Todd’s Timepiece is a grandfather clock imagined as a cinematic furniture piece for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Set in the dimly lit barber room above Mrs. Lovett’s pie shop on Fleet Street, the space is charged with quiet menace—marked by a suspicious chest, a distorted mirror, and the infamous barber chair concealing a hidden trapdoor beneath. Positioned directly in front of the chair, the clock stands as a silent witness to these crimes, observing every act as time ticks on.
Shaped with exaggerated curves and expressive woodwork, the form draws from Tim Burton’s signature blend of whimsy and darkness, merging influences from his live-action and animated worlds. The slow tick and sway of the pendulum, paired with subtle light flickers and an off-centre clock face, introduce moments of unease and misdirection. More than a timekeeper, Todd’s Timepiece intensifies the atmosphere of the room—turning furniture into an active participant in the story’s unfolding tension.

Alankrit
.
Alankrit, meaning “to adorn,” is a floor lamp shaped by the ornamentation of Indian lacquer craft and marks my first furniture project. Indian lacquerware, one of India’s oldest crafts, dates back over 400 years and is first mentioned in Abul Fazal’s Aaine Akbari (1590 AD). Lac work is still practiced in the village of Nirona in Kutch, though by only a few artisans today. We learned the art of lacquer woodcraft from Popatbhai, one of its remaining practitioners, who guided us through the process. Inspired by this heritage, Alankrit blends traditional craft with modern aesthetics.
Crafted in Babool wood, its black-and-white palette quietly contrasts the craft’s usual vibrancy, offering a thoughtful way for the tradition to continue forward.

Hoi An Day-10 : No plans, just perfect moments
Started the day with a sunrise and I swear, each one feels different here.

First stop: My Son Sanctuary , ancient Hindu temples built by the Cham people. The Shiva Vishnu carvings were wild to see in Vietnam! A lot was destroyed in the war, but what’s left is stunning. Some sculptures now sit in the Louvre (yes, that Louvre) and the Cham Museum in Da Nang.

Post-history session, we dove straight into food which was banh mi, of course. Nothing beats it.

We tried renting cycles but guess who forgot their passport? Yep, me. So while Mark chilled, I went walking and stumbled on a coconut boat ride. Totally unplanned, totally unforgettable. Just me and a local named Yen spinning in circles , honestly, best solo date ever.

Later, we hit the Bamboo Circus show, no cameras allowed, but mind-blowing. A must watch if you’re in town.

Wrapped up the day picking up my custom tailored shoes, then beach time till sunset.

Hoi An, you really showed off today.

Maze Bar (a.k.a. 100 Roofs Cafe)
This place is straight out of a fantasy movie. Maze Bar is literally a maze, dark tunnels, spiral staircases, trippy art on every wall, and hidden rooms you stumble into while having your drink. It’s part bar, part art installation, and fully mind-blowing. Just don’t get lost… or do, that’s kind of the whole point!
