I’m incredibly proud to come have come away with the Youth Surfski World Title, and even prouder to have represented my country on the global stage🇿🇦

Could not be prouder than to have done it alongside such an amazing team of people and management.

Western Cape Lifesaving Championships 2026.
Clifton 4th Beach.

Coming into shore for the Open Men’s Board Final, shorebreak management was key.

Four smart ways to get to the beach:

1. Ride in between the waves, then jog to shore.
AKA: Matthew Brading of Fish Hoek

2. Drop down a double-up and arrive on top of a shorebreak wave.
AKA: Naor Lombard of Clifton

4. Launch down a mid-size wave and hold the straps.
AKA: Cody Stallard of Fish Hoek

3. Ride all the way through the foam onto the sand.
AKA: Jasper Mocke of Fish Hoek

OPEN MENS BOARD CHAMPION: Matthew Brading - Fish Hoek Surf Lifesaving Club

The Men’s Board racing was tight all season with world class ‘argy bargy’ at the cans, heart-breaking party waves to level the field and memorable shorebreak.

Fish Hoek’s Matthew Brading worked his way to the top of the rankings through consistent results across the series. He was regularly among the first to the cans and executed solid, controlled board paddling throughout.

He finishes the season as a well deserved Men’s Board series champion.

MEN’S BOARD RACE HIGHLIGHTS
CARNAGE was on the cards in the mens board race at Western Cape Champs. Naor Lombard delivered a power performance right off the start line, making it clear that he came to dominate. The seasoned lifeguard with years of board padddling experience begind him confidently tackled the heavy shorebreak and offered and impressive show in skill to all on the beach. A strong field, stacked with national team members, chased him down, all after those double points and Provincial victory.

Open Mens Board | Fish Hoek
🌊 Flat water racing at its finest.
The Men’s Board showdown at Fish Hoek brought serious intensity, with club rivalries on full display and every wave counting.

Matthew Brading delivered a composed and powerful performance to take the win for Fish Hoek. Jonathan Lucas kept the pressure on all the way for Llandudno in second, while Wade Beukes secured third in a tightly contested battle through the break. Noah Maton crossed in fourth for Llandudno, and Heath Clarke rounded out the top five for Fish Hoek after a determined finish.

🌊 Chaos at the Cans. Cheeky waves. A deep gully. The Men’s Board race was a true Milnerton classic.

Matthew Brading settled some scores. After losing a board lead at the Battle of the Bays earlier this season, he made no mistake at Milnerton, taking a well-earned board race win. Close behind, three U19 athletes applied serious pressure to the field, keeping the race honest all the way to the line. Llandudno stalwart and Club Captain Jonny Lucas rounded out the top five. With two competitions remaining, the Board Title race is wide open.

POV: You thought you were winning the board race… 😬 This was fast, tactical, and unpredictable!🔥

With cans sitting in the wave zone, the Muizenberg surf kept athletes on their toes. Clean paddling, sharp positioning, and split-second wave calls made all the difference.

It was a masterclass in finish line racing as Zack Waters charged through messy onshore surf and sprinted up the beach for the win.

SA’s 2025🏆

Could not be prouder to have finally gotten the job done with the @fishhoeksurf family❤️. It was our year and it came home. This club means the world to me and it is truly a privilege to be a part of such an amazing team of people, I’m so proud of everyone’s achievement’s this season, truly a deserved win after a long graft to reclaim it.

Personally I was super stoked with my results, finally got the monkey off my back and won a Board title again, alongside some other solid individual results:

🥇- U19 Ironman
🥇- U19 Board
🥉- Open Ironman

Proud to have bagged a bunch more medals with my teams across the competition, and ultimately to bring the title home.

Africa Champs x SA Champs ‘24

Super proud to finally get a taste of international competition with the DHL invitational team at Africa Champs this year. Stoked to have shared it with such a lekker group of people.

An emotional one, both good and bad with many ups and downs. Overall I'm truly stoked with my results and couldn't be prouder to share them with the best team and cubbies from @fishhoeksurf.
