There was a period where Nancy Lupo was drifting through Los Angeles. It has inspired an upcoming novel which, writer Maya Tounta saying Lupo “is both writing and saying she is writing.” And like anyone who has traversed the LA real-estate market, the artist found herself psychically challenged by the very quest of securing that perfect apartment.

In "Tom", Nancy Lupo re-routes the iceberg fantasia of "Disko" into a scenario in which longing for the sublime is interrupted by disappearance, logistics, and murky human drama. Named after her Airbnb host in Disko Bay, Greenland, Tom is a composite—someone, anyone, no one. The exhibition extends Disko (Kunstverein Kevin, Vienna, 2025), in which Lupo sketched her ambiguous pull toward Greenland— its enchanted landscape shadowed by geopolitical anxiety, power grabs, and extractivist mentalities.
