Music is part of everyone’s life. It marks certain years, brings us back to places we thought we had forgotten, and sometimes says something we couldn’t find the words for ourselves.

For some of us, though, music eventually becomes more than just a part of life.
That’s what happened to me.

After decades of playing, touring, making records and watching songs travel from a studio to people on the other side of the world, my relationship with music became much bigger than the instrument I started with.

You begin to understand that every choice in a song matters because it serves something larger. The groove, the arrangement, the performance, the production... all of it has a purpose.

The mission is to take an idea, protect what makes it meaningful and carry it all the way until someone else can feel it too.

That’s what making records has become for me.

A mission.

An artist can walk into the studio with something that exists mostly in their imagination, and eventually that idea can travel far beyond the room where it was created.

But an idea doesn’t become a record because you felt inspired once. You have to keep showing up for it, through the bad takes, wrong turns and moments when quitting would be easier.

Stay with it long enough, and what once lived only in your head becomes strong enough to stand on its own and reach people you may never meet.

And with the right person beside you, you’re less likely to get stuck, give up halfway through, or settle for a version of the song you know isn’t really there yet. The right guidance helps you keep moving until the record actually feels like something you’re proud to put your name on.

If music has called you to create something and you have an idea, a demo, that you know could become more, send it to me through the link in my bio.

I’ll help you carry the mission through and turn what you hear in your head into a record you can put into the world.

What would our lives be without a soundtrack for the moments that shape us?

And somewhere out there, someone may be waiting for a song that only you can make.
Let’s turn your idea into something loud.

Starship Flight 13 - Cinematic Edit

I made this edit to capture the cinematic feel of flight 13. This was made possible by the professional audio mixing and mastering by @_olibeaudoin_ at @metalx.band and @piratestudiosqc, who also created the soundtrack, which we call "Chariot to the Stars."

We hope you enjoy watching this just as much as we enjoyed making it.

Special thanks to my friend @blyzedog for getting me all the clips, and @spacex for releasing the footage that makes these edits possible. by @_olibeaudoin_

Today, you don’t need a recording studio just to record music.

A laptop, a microphone and a few plugins can get you surprisingly far. Technology has made the tools more accessible than they have ever been, and AI has made it possible to generate ideas almost instantly.

But access to the tools was never the hardest part because the real challenge is knowing what the song needs.

A producer brings years of listening, writing, recording and performing into every decision: knowing when a section needs more weight, when an arrangement is getting in the way, when a performance can go further and how to preserve the thing that made the song worth creating in the first place.

That is the difference between simply recording what already exists and developing an idea until it reaches its highest emotional impact.

At Pirate Studios Quebec, I work with artists from the first demo through pre-production, recording, editing, mixing and mastering, but the technical process is only part of the job. The bigger responsibility is understanding what you are trying to express and finding the best way to make someone else feel it too.

After more than twenty years writing, recording, touring and performing, I’ve learned that people don’t connect with a song because of the equipment used to make it or because the process was technically impressive.

They connect because something in it feels real and that is what we are trying to protect and amplify.

If you have a demo and you can hear where it could go but you are not sure how to get it there, send it to Pirate Studios Quebec.

That is where the producer’s job begins.

One of the biggest mistakes an artist can make is assuming that once the demo exists, the next step is recording.

It isn’t.

Before committing to final performances, there is a much more important question to answer: has the song actually reached its full potential yet?

That is what pre-production is for.

When an artist sends me a demo, I start by listening to the song as a whole. I look at the structure, the instrumentation, the dynamics and, most importantly, the emotional impact.

Where should the song hit harder? Does a section need more tension before the release? Is the chorus carrying enough weight? Is there something in the arrangement getting in the way of the idea instead of serving it?

Only when we know what the song is trying to become does it make sense to start capturing the final performances.

From there, I stay involved through the entire process: pre-production, recording, editing, mixing and mastering, until the original demo has become a finished record ready for release.

That approach comes from more than twenty years spent making music from both sides of the studio glass: writing, recording, producing, touring and experiencing firsthand what happens when a song leaves the speakers and meets a real audience.

At Pirate Studios Quebec, my job is to understand what you are trying to create, sometimes even before you have all the words to explain it, and help you take that idea as far as it can go.

If you have a song sitting on your hard drive and you know there is more inside it, send me the demo.

Let’s find out what it can become.

This one is all about the feet. Intricate double-bass patterns using heel-toe technique to keep the speed, control and articulation locked in without wasting motion.

A closer look at the footwork behind the track.
