A tender pastoral moment is squashed by a colossus. As you stand at its feet, the titan’s mouth gapes open. Swallowing air and anything else unfortunate enough to fall in it’s path, like a foghorn it bellows “The McRib is Back, Exit Now”

Rural Billboard is the first release by longtime friends and former enemies Pat Keen and Zack Warpinski. It’s a whimsical and contemplative record about the dark side of roadside advertising told from the perspective of two modest voices, Upright Bass and Pedal Steel Guitar. Through sheer determination (and a lot of post-processing) these simple characters are brought together to tell a tale of the fall and rise of our world back to a better place. A world with a few less commercials.

🪲🪲🪲the day has come! my 16 track instrumental record "I Saw A Bug" is out now on vinyl and bandcamp via @islandhouserecs ! I also started a @patreon where i'll be posting a new piece of exclusive music every month! links are in my bio🪲🪲🪲

i started making this record in the pandemic, i didn't have any desire to write lyrics in such an intense time in our world. i was missing the pure joy that comes from performing so i decided to start combing through my voice memos of guitar/strumstick ditties on my phone. i'd find the demo, relearn and refine the part, make a form, add to it and go. what a hoot!

the music is intended to be listened to anywhere. put it on while you're doing the dishes, working, walking, having a dinner party or have a deep listen to the vinyl with headphones. that's the beauty of instrumental music!

a big ol' thank you to tim mcmanus @islandhouserecs for believing in this music and putting it out.

thanks so much to the dear friends below who contributed their beautiful talents:
@adelyn.strei clarinet (1,4)
@fullcolorsoundrecords production, keyboard, synths, midi instruments (3,15)
@yesterato_wolfe production, mixing, engineering, bass (6), lap steel (6), guitars (6), piano (6,14), synths (6)
@jacklussenden drums, engineering (6)

come bliss out for a sunday matinee and celebrate @heightscoffeebar 1 year anniversary as well as the release of @_patkeen_ and @2_ply_ ‘s album Rural Billboard on @islandhouserecs

Listen to patient pedal steel guitar and upright bass explorations while you get CAFFED UP. Pat and Zack will have tapes available for sale!

Here is @2_ply_ ‘s description of the music:

DPAD was conceived as a Dream Machine — the eponymous title of local artist Drew Arieta’s recent evolving installation at The Walker. The group vacillates freely from grooves that nod to 70’s electric Miles Davis, to glitchy tape loops and harmonized horns a la 80’s Jon Hassell. The quartet taps into our collective autonomic system to create improvised sound tapestries that land somewhere between early proto-ambient music, new jazz, and the hypnosis of experimental electronic and techno musics. 📷: @sadiebgz by @_patkeen_

Chaos & Commotion is out everywhere today. It was recorded with @yesterato_wolfe and @_patkeen_ in Dex’s studio in Minneapolis, MN. I can’t thank Dex, Pat, and everyone else involved enough for contributing their time, talent, and heart to these recordings. Making music is cool, but my heart is also full with gratitude and appreciation for the friendships and @martysdeli sandwiches I got out of it along the way. And really for my wife, @nzambonivergara who has shown nothing but support, encouragement, and excitement for this project ❤️. Excited for the next one already! Would mean the world if you’d give the album a listen and share with some friends. The first 48 hours of a release are the most important for visibility :) Links in bio!

@yesterato_wolfe - recording, producer, mixing, guitar, bass, background vocals, synth, lap steel
@_patkeen_ - producer, bass, guitar, synth, drums, percussion, harmonies, background vocals,
@voulouse - harmonies + background vocals
