Thanks to Mom, Dad, @teresageorge5093 and all who are helping @bookkeepersmovie reach its audience ❤️

“This documentary by a father and son team is a different kind of road trip film in that it deals with sorrow and healing that ends in a surprising way….I cannot commend too highly this insightful documentary.” - Ed McNulty, Visual Parables

THE BOOK KEEPERS is now available in theaters and virtual cinemas nationwide. You can also book group screenings through @kinemahq. Link to schedule and info in bio.

While the world is locked in watching the Round of 32 unfold at the FIFA World Cup, @_philwall is helping us understand the deeper story behind the game in "Soccer Meets America". ⚽🎥

But as Phil shares in this clip, soccer’s story in America did not start with the World Cup.

It did not even start in 1994. It has been here.

Union soldiers played it during the Civil War. Crowds of 46,000 showed up for soccer in New York in the 1920s.

And that is what makes sports stories so powerful.

The best ones are never just about the game.

They reveal culture. They say something about who we are, what we value, and how sports continue to shape people, communities, and generations.

That is at the heart of Phil’s new Roku docuseries. It brings those stories forward and challenges us to look more closely at the history, culture, and passion behind the game.

Watch Soccer Meets America on Roku, and listen to my full conversation with Phil Wall on The Athletics of Business Podcast. 🎥🎙️

The best sports stories are never just about the sport.

They reveal culture. They reveal belief. They reveal what people have been building long before the rest of the world started paying attention.

That perspective comes to life in this conversation with @_philwall , who returns to The Athletics of Business Podcast to talk about his new three-part Roku docuseries, "Soccer Meets America".

And with the #FIFAWorldCup happening right now, the timing could not be better.

Because soccer’s story in America is much deeper than many of us realize.

Union soldiers played it during the Civil War. Massive crowds showed up for games in New York in the 1920s. Pelé brought global attention to the New York Cosmos.

But Phil’s work does much more than uncover history. It challenges the narrative.

For too long, the conversation has been centered around whether soccer is popular enough in America. Phil pushes us to start from a different place: the game is already here, the audience is already here, and the real question is what comes next.

That lesson applies far beyond soccer.

Leaders do this all the time. We get stuck trying to validate something that already has a solid foundation, instead of asking better questions about vision, growth, standards, and what success really looks like.

That same leadership lesson showed up in the way Phil had to bring this project to life.

After years of carrying so much of the creative process himself, Soccer Meets America required him to trust a larger team, ask better questions, admit what he did not know, and stay connected to the vision without trying to control every detail.

That is leadership.

This conversation is about soccer, but more than that, it is about culture, leadership, humility, and the responsibility we have in the stories we choose to tell.

Great storytelling starts with the audience. Not the teller.

@_philwall knows that.

He is an award-winning filmmaker and storyteller whose work has taken him from deeply personal projects like "The Book Keepers" to his new three-part Roku docuseries, "Soccer Meets America".

There is a reason I always enjoy sitting down with Phil. He has a way of getting underneath the surface of a story and helping you see the people, the purpose, and the responsibility behind it.

He shares a simple but powerful lesson he heard from a client:

You can walk into the room and say, “Here I am.”

Or you can walk in and say, “There you are.”

That applies to film.
It applies to coaching.

Because if you want people to connect with your message, you have to understand who is in front of you first.

The story is not about proving what you know.

It is about creating connection, meaning, and belief with the people you are trying to serve.

Thank you to @socceramericapro for the thoughtful review of “Soccer Meets America!”

A year ago, I was surprised to find that there wasn’t a comprehensive documentary of the sport’s place in American culture. Once we got the green light for the project, that surprise quickly turned into a sense of responsibility.

My suggestion: watch the show and then track this World Cup! I think you’ll come away with a deeper appreciation for just how far we’ve come. You’ll love it for the team, but I think you’ll love it even more for the fans and the people who sustained the game in the U.S. long before it was mainstream. That’s who I’m rooting for most these days.

Grateful to @byvoxcreative, @verizon, and everyone who helped tell the story. Watch it now on @therokuchannel! by @_philwall

MOSH Audio partnered with NBA Launchpad company Virtual Repetitions—the tech pioneer of app & VR training—to make a show that breaks down basketball’s legendary plays.

Documentarian Phil Wall and multimedia artist Dena Kopolovich cracked the code on visual accompaniment for audio-first storytelling.

This isn’t another talking-heads sports pod. Learn secrets of the game through physics, history, and nuances of the modern NBA.

Link in bio for a new podcast with me and my friend Brooks Berry! Available on Substack and Apple Podcasts.

It's an ongoing discussion about my film in-progress, "The Passing Game," and an exploration of why I'm still telling it after 16 years. It's the first film I started, and will likely be the fourth release. Tune in for a front-row seat to the edit room and help me figure out why I've kept it alive all these years. Thanks!
