After some delay, another incredible show from my summer season at the Santa Fe Opera, Lili Elbe! Designed by the wonderful Allen Moyer, directed by James Robinson, and charged by Laura Greenfield, I got to help throw texture and paint and all kinds of things at this incredible set! Pictures really don’t do this experience justice. It will be continuing its journey at the Seattle Opera in 2029.

Wow, I really had so much fun getting to paint this set for Tamino and The Magic Flute at the Santa Fe Opera. Thank you to Laura Greenfield for the support and direction as I got to paint this, Simon Higlett for the beautiful design, and Bronwen Sharp and Ellie Vice for the incredible photos! Everything depicted is what I touched on this set. taken in Santa Fe Opera by @_ry.art_

Wow this was certainly a major challenge for me but I did it and it looks good! Hurrah! Another project done in less than a week. I learned quite a lot during this one about how important it is to prepare your drawing properly and keep a flexible plan to refer to. taken in Cobalt Studios, Inc. by @_ry.art_

Drawing then painting then drawing again, learning at cobalt has felt like one big merry-go-round of art. I wish I could fit everything that I’ve gotten to do here in all in one, but there simply is too much!

I’ve been here for two months now and some days I still can’t believe I am here. I’m living the dream and working towards a more incredible future as an artist every day. It’s been so wonderful living and learning and working with so many like-minded individuals. I can’t wait for more! by @_ry.art_

I finally put together the main three shows I worked on from start to finish during my summer at the Santa Fe Opera. This season I was offered a staff position and given the responsibility to lead a multitude of projects throughout the summer. What an incredible and crazy time! I can barely believe how far I’ve come since a paintbrush first entered my hand for theater all those years ago.

A major thank you to the wonderful painters I worked with this summer, all of you were so incredible and I’m so glad I got to meet each of you! Another big thank you to Alan Moyer, Leslie Travers, and Christopher Oram for designing such wonderful sets that we got to create from scratch. I will never forget the experience I gained from this place.

My super eventful trip to New York! I came up here to do an interview with Cobalt Studios but ended up making some new friends and being stranded here for a whole week!

On another note, I’ve been accepted into Cobalt! So as of September of this year I will be moving to New York and staying here for the next 2 years. A new exciting chapter here I come! taken in New York City by @_ry.art_

A Trompe l’oeil painting I did for a final project, utilized the grisaille technique and focused on accurately achieving chiaroscuro and depth! by @_ry.art_

From the designs of the wonderful Kelli Harrod @setdes.kel , the direction of the astounding Scott Cox @big_poot , I bring to you the set of @theatrejccc production of Cabaret! I’m super proud of how it turned out in the end. This was another major project full of wacky twists and turns (an entire false proscenium made out of cardboard???) and plenty of fun new techniques to create and employ.

I’m so happy to have once again been the scenic charge for such a wonderful show. I hold Cabaret close to my heart, as it’s one of the first shows I ever painted for. I’m so glad that my time as a scenic artist in KC has come full circle! From just a scenic to the lead scenic for the same show in the span of 2 years. How crazy is that? by @_ry.art_
