Group exhibition ‘Salon Amsterdam’ is on view at the gallery until 7 February.

The exhibition with the same concept takes place simultaneously across 11 Amsterdam galleries and refers to the Parisian art salons of the 19th century. Not so much to the political aspects of these historical presentations, but rather to the way the works were displayed: on walls covered from floor to ceiling.

Our exhibition aims to offer a similar experience of abundance – it is about density, curiosity, and the pleasure of looking.

SALON AMSTERDAM
The exhibition Salon Amsterdam refers to the Parisian art salons of the 19th century. Not so much to the political aspects of these historical presentations, but rather to the way the works were displayed: on walls covered from floor to ceiling.

Our simultaneous exhibition across the Hazenstraat area aims to offer a similar experience of abundance. It is about density, curiosity, and the pleasure of looking.

The 11 participating galleries have delved into their depots (and collections) and are showcasing a wide selection of classic, iconic, nearly forgotten, new, or recently revived artworks from their exhibition history.

The title ‘Salon Amsterdam’ refers to the 18th- and 19th-century Parisian art salons, where the walls would be filled with artworks from floor to ceiling. Our joint exhibition aims to recreate this overwhelming experience of the richness of art. The participating galleries have delved into their storages (and collections) and showcase a wide selection of classic, iconic, almost forgotten and newly relevant artworks from their exhibition history. by @_salonamsterdam
