A look back 👁️

We look back at Salon Amsterdam: what happens to a work of art once its exhibition run is over?

Twelve Amsterdam galleries joined forces to bring works from their archives back into the public eye. For Stigter van Doesburg, Salon Amsterdam provided an opportunity to present works from previous exhibitions and show them in a new context.

After this moment of reflection, where will the spotlight shift this time?

Group exhibition ‘Salon Amsterdam’ is on view at the gallery until 7 February.

The exhibition with the same concept takes place simultaneously across 11 Amsterdam galleries and refers to the Parisian art salons of the 19th century. Not so much to the political aspects of these historical presentations, but rather to the way the works were displayed: on walls covered from floor to ceiling.

Our exhibition aims to offer a similar experience of abundance – it is about density, curiosity, and the pleasure of looking.

Salon Amsterdam: Kubilay Mert Ural, until February 7.

A special presentation as part of Salon, an Amsterdam, an initiative by a group of Amsterdam galleries. Old and new work are presented together across the city in eleven galleries.

Kubilay Mert Ural’s practice threads painting, sculpture, video, and performance around a highly imaginative stream of consciousness that populates dreamworlds with an array of fascinating characters. His paintings depart from a mental drift, daydreams, visual noise, and familiar images that slowly lose their stability and coherence. He works instinctively, allowing abstraction and figuration to interrupt, collide, and coexist rather than resolve. Humour, tension, and discomfort sit altogether across his work.

Kubilay Mert Ural | Performance on Friday, 18:00–18:45

On January 30, as part of our second artist focus in Salon Amsterdam-an initiative by a group of Amsterdam galleries presenting archival work for four weeks across the city–Kubilay Mert Ural will carry out a semi-improvised guitar performance following ambient and shoegaze traditions. The session will focus on atmosphere and layering rather than traditional song structures, with melodies emerging in response to imagined cinematic moods.

The second part of our participation in Salon Amsterdam starts today with a presentation of work by Kubilay Mert Ural, until February 7.

Performance on 30 January, 18:00—18:45

For the second chapter of our participation in Salon Amsterdam—an initiative by a group of Amsterdam galleries presenting archival work for four weeks across the city—we present a combination of former and new work by Kubilay Mert Ural.

In his performance, Mert Ural will carry out a semi-improvised guitar performance following ambient and shoegaze traditions. The session will focus on atmosphere and layering rather than traditional song structures, with melodies emerging in response to imagined cinematic moods.
