Officially a @nolsedu backpacking instructor after taking the 21-day instructor course 🫠

Self-awareness, communication, judgement, and initiative are just some of the skills I developed on this journey.

My course enabled me to challenge long-held negative self-talk and be in community with my peers.

The Wind River Range is a remarkable mountain range and the first one to steal my heart 3 years ago. Blessed to spend so much intimate time with her. Sunshine, rain, snow, lightning and hail couldn't stop us from pushing forward. We fished, we sang, we laughed, and in the end we grew 🌱

Trump just gutted Bears Ears National Monument and Grand Staircase-Escalante.

On July 13, 2026, he signed orders slashing both Utah monuments by nearly 3 million acres combined - over 90% of each, gone. He did this once before in 2017; Biden restored the land in 2021. Now it's happening again, and worse. Stating, "You can't do anything...You can virtually not even walk on it."

These are ancestral tribal lands, home to more than 100,000 archaeological sites. Not one tribe was consulted before this decision.

The proclamation opens the land to uranium mining, coal extraction, oil and gas leasing, and geothermal development.

Public lands aren't his to sell off.

Whatever arises, train again and again in seeing it for what it is. The innermost essence of mind is without bias.

Things arise and things dissolve forever and ever.

Whatever happens, we can look at it with a nonjudgmental attitude. This is the primary method for working with painful situations.

Times are difficult globally; awakening is no longer a luxury or an ideal. It’s becoming critical.

We don’t need to add more depression, more discouragement, or more anger to what’s already here.

It’s becoming essential that we learn how to relate sanely with difficult times. The earth seems to be beseeching us to connect with joy and discover our innermost essence.

This is the best way that we can benefit others.

Freedom.

Perhaps complete freedom is something we spend our entire lives pursuing. We all carry invisible prisons (fear, grief, trauma, doubt, old stories we've inherited or created ourselves).

But the door is always open. We may not choose what happened to us, but we can choose how we respond.

June 19th marks 162 years since freedom was finally enforced for the last enslaved African Americans in the U.S. What feels like distant history is only a few generations away (great-great-grandparents' era).

I still feel the weight of ancestral trauma.

In how I think. In how I react. In the ways I limit myself and my potential.

And I believe it is my responsibility to help break the cycle. To heal my own wounds, and the wounds passed down to me.

To allow myself to feel joy.
To cry. To rest. To acknowledge what happened.

Self-reflection can be painful. But on the other side of that pain is growth, understanding, and a deeper capacity for happiness.

Life is beautiful. And life is heavy, but not always.

Joy is Resistance✊🏾 & let's talk about grief✨

You can look at a person & have no idea they're grieving, heartbroken, depressed.

We've defaulted to "good, how are you?" Completely removing the tie that binds all humans into one. Emotions. Vulnerability.

That, breathing, and taxes.

On the other side of joy is grief.

This winter I grieved....hard. Thinking it would kill me to feel it, but it did not.

I moved slower, journaled more, and faced the hard truth the only way out is through.

These low lows were met w/ some high highs:
* Japan with my people
* Sleeping in a warm bed
* Absolutely crushing it at my 1st U.S. Rev Tour

From the outside you'd never guess the polarity. On thé floor one moment & in the air the next 🕊🙏🏾

We are all grieving in some way. Be brave. Feel it.

And please be kind.

To yourself & others 🌞

A snowy/rainy Tuesday tune 🎶

After 7 years of nomadic vanlife I stepped into a 4-walled place this fall. I know I’ll return to the road one day, but differently. With a place to Land 🌱 A place to have my creature comforts.

In the slowing down, I’m meeting parts of myself that need care. Old wounds. Edges that want softening. And a deep, undeniable need to nurture my own joy.

Is this what it means to be human?

I’m learning that joy is something I have to tend myself, like a small, steady flame.

No one else can keep it burning for me.

Moving into a van meant unleashing a lot of possessions including my keyboard. But after 7 years, I'm back on the keys, just for fun. To see a part of me smile, orrr cry when the notes hit 😮‍💨

What I've gathered thus far on this journey inward:

¥• We have everything we need inside ourself to heal. Our ancestors wouldn't have made it if we didn't. That knowledge is encoded in us too.

¥• I can't possibly be alone. There is so much life all around. Yes, talk to it. Hug a tree.

¥• We're human. Accept the flaws and change them with Grace like letting go of swimming upstream

¥• Eat more greens 💚

Roland ahead so life won't pass me by 🎶.

Snow this season is acting like an ex. Right when you think it's done it's always back when least expected! I can't say no though, to powder or pipe 🫠

The pipe was choppy, but sometimes it’s fun to just cruise. Making the most of these days before @coppermtn closes for the season.

It’s a strange paradox enjoying something fully while knowing it won’t last. Funny how the best things come with an expiration date.

Like a pendulum you agree to ride anyway.

Don't have an Earth Day gift? Try a sincere thank you to the land around you from the bottom of your heart 💚

Sometimes we forget our ancestors have lived off the land for over 100,000 years. Before CVS, before Walmart. Only recently have we become an "indoor species." No matter, our life supply still begins outside, in the dirt, and with the sun.
