Layer memory, intention, & vision on a flowing tapestry of stories. Rivers are natural editors, carrying some things downstream while depositing others on banks, carving new channels while filling old ones.

This year, honoring the resilience of the creative community while spotlighting the makers, spaces, and ideas that continue to rebuild, reimagine, and inspire.

📯 Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy is a California state agency working for 40+ years to protect and reconnect Southern California’s wild and urban landscapes. Through partnerships with communities and agencies, it has helped preserve more than 80,000 acres of parkland, weaving mountains, rivers, trails, and wildlife habitat into a network of parks open to all, including along the Los Angeles River.

Making progress on the new series of drawings that I decided to call “Forgiveness”. One of a greater gifts we can give to ourselves and others. With my work rooted in ornament, one of my favorite parts is realizing that when we ornament by hand there are so many inconsistencies and mistakes. I am reminded to keep going, to forgive myself, to giggle, to use the opportunity that the mistakes give. A space. A blip. A new way to look at something differently. Where are you making blips in life right now? I found it 👀 It was such a hot day and we went around looking for the Getar River. It was so beautiful, hidden in the trees. It is a short patch. I wish it was longer. I had a hard time understanding where to find more of it. I feel happy and complete to have seen it live and to have registered the aliveness it brings to the ecosystem around it. Monday morning energy directed at creating a limited edition drawing from my new series that will debut at Frogtown First Friday Folk Lounge Market edition August 7th 5-10. These were inspired by the books by Ernest Batchelder, he wrote two books on the beauty of ornament. I still have not met another person who has read them! This is my invitation for you to be person number 2! They are fantastic! There have been many take aways from teaching this series as part of my grant from the City Of Pasadena, but one I really love sharing is that ornamentation erases mistakes. Just like life does. If we keep on living, it’s hard to remember what was off. The insight is to keep going. I was excited to discover this trip the Armenian Ceramic Eggs from Kutahya. For some reason this art form passed me prior. I thought they are so cute.
