this may, i had the honor of repairing/restoring this 1959/1960 @balenciaga gown that @alexandra_longanecker found at @shrimptoncouture.

i begun by replacing the organza facing in the bodice, which had begun to shred, and patching a small tear in the skirt. then, i re-beaded the bodice with the crystal and sequin beading that had come off, before taking out the machined hem and refinishing it by hand, using a very fine invisible catchstitch. taken in Brooklyn, New York by @_shaoyangstudio

submitted the final portfolio for my embellishment class with @kennethdking—with a single minute to spare.

included in this batch of samplers:
- covered buttons, rouleau loops, frog closures
- pleats and ruffles
- fabric flowers
- fabric manipulation, smocking, and weaving
- quilting and trapunto

finished my midterm for @kennethdking’s decorative techniques and embellishment course by the skin of my teeth—kinda made me feel like i was back in college all over again 🫠 really happy with the work though!

jacket is done! (mostly…)

finally fellstitched the lining in place, sewed on all the buttons—and cut all of the buttons off to rearrange them several times—and got the buttonholes put in at @jonathanembroideryplus this morning.

also stopped in at the met to see the superfine exhibit—i ran through the sargent exhibit too, but truthfully at that point, i was famished and all i could think about was lunch. taken in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York by @_shaoyangstudio

up all night to...knit i-cord?

stayed up til 4am this morning knitting, ripping out, and reknitting the i-cord bindings on my raw edges—because i'm a perfectionist that can't be contained by normal bedtimes.

[fini] finished sewing this shorter, 5-pocket version of the vintage YSL trousers i've been obsessed with these last few months.

things i'm loving about this pair: the flyguard-waistband junction is better resolved, the hem is chainstitched (by hand!), the pocketing and bias bindings are fine cotton broadcloth and feel super luxurious.

things to work on in the next pair: slightly wobbly bias bindings on outseams, slightly wobbly flatfelled seams on inseams, slight misalignments on back pockets and waistband.

getting custom labels felt like such a splurge at the time, but getting to sew one in at the very end of each project has been kind of a gamechanger. taken in Brooklyn, New York by @_shaoyangstudio
