TONIGHT: EARWORM PRESENTS AN OUTSIDER ART SHOWCASE

Earworm joins forces with Outsider Art for a label showcase bringing together five projects from across the label’s orbit. A stalwart of the UK noise world for many years, Outsider Art has helped shape and influence a wide field of work, with its artists and alumni also running throughout Earworm’s own programme.

MISHA PHILLIPS works through stark juxtapositions of drone, minimalism and piercing feedback, drawing on extended guitar techniques, sampling, tape loops, blown-out drums and no-input mixing. A prolific multi-instrumentalist with around a dozen releases under various names, Phillips is also the live drummer for Lambrini Girls.

KNIFEDOUTOFEXISTENCE, the long-running project of Dean Lloyd Robinson, builds emotionally charged soundscapes from cassette tapes, guitars, synths, vocals, microphones and feedback, with recent work circling grief, hauntology and the physical and mental spaces those ideas occupy.

PALE WORLD pushes manipulated field recordings, loops, oscillation and contact-mic’d objects from minimal, restrained structures into overwhelming states of harsh noise and frail ambience.

VIIMEINEN combines contact-mic’d acoustic percussion with worn-out tape loops, gradually constructing abrasive landscapes before allowing them to disintegrate into analogue decay.

Montreal’s SKIN, the project of Heather Ross, works with fragile cassettes, fogged-out drones, field recordings, unamplified voice and one-off lyrics, approaching performance as something fleeting, physical and impossible to reproduce.

This March, I joined Gutter Carrion @_shearman and Informelle @chinon645 for a tour across France and the Netherlands, performing in Paris (duo with @roro_vomir ) , Rouen, Amsterdam and Leiden.

Four cities. Four nights. Countless conversations, train rides and performances.

Every venue had its own atmosphere—from intimate DIY spaces to underground noise communities—but they all shared the same openness to experimentation and live performance.

Thank you to everyone who organised the concerts, shared the stage with us, helped behind the scenes and came to listen.

Grateful to @autistic.campaign , @schocomune , @sportnational_ , @charnelground , all the venues, fellow artists and audiences.

Looking forward to meeting again somewhere on the road.

In one weeks time, Earworm and Stimulacrum join forces for a special Sunday noise matinee in Brighton’s @brunswickpub - which will be the final leg of UK mini tour for Mexico City via Yellowknife’s ‘Le Trash Can’ with support from a collaboration between London’s Ancient Weakling and Sissy Puss and local support from Marienbad and Whose Body Is This?
