There are no words to describe how I feel.
If I can go back and tell that 10 year old girl who didn’t speak English and moved to the United States of America and absolutely hated it that she was going to be ok, have a hard and beautiful life and one day be in the New York Times - she probably wouldn’t believe it. Forever in shock and grateful for the incredible @efazzare who understood my work on so many levels and beautifully captured my story. Thank you to the @nytimes @grtnwilkins @squeakcarnwath and my love and support system @cdehenzel. The one OK photo out of hundreds made it as my portrait.

Portals of heritage - a conversation between Narsiso Martinez, Jessy Slim and bryant terry moderated by Cornelia Stokes exploring how land, labor and material histories shape their work.

Martinez’s drawings on discarded produce boxes foreground the often invisible labor of farmworkers; Slim’s chickpea-based sculptures use organic matter to encapsulate a material revisiting of trauma and transformation; and terry’s interdisciplinary practice bridges food, sculpture, and social action to examine cultural memory and collective nourishment.

Thank you to everyone who attended it was an intimate and beautiful conversation.

CHICKPEAS FOR THOUGHT -
An immersive dining experience and site specific chickpea installation. A collaboration with two incredible chefs - Liza Hinman and Cristina Topham, a chickpea forward 4-course meal and the night of my dreams.

I can’t thank Sam K. enough for allowing me the privilege to make my silly ideas come to life and for her unbridled enthusiasm about my work.
Thank you to Liza and Cristina for an incredible menu that you put so much thought and care into that blew everyone’s mind. I loved collaborating with you 💕

This event was the celebration night for the end of my month long residency in beautiful Healdsburg. It’s the first of a series I am working on and bringing together chefs and artists that I want to be in conversation with.

Ya Ana Ya Ana, 2025

Powder coated steel, Fabric, Chickpea Clay, Wax

Re-made this work for this current show and she nearly killed me, which is why her street name is Chickpea Landscapes, Big Drama Queen. Ya Ana Ya Ana is titled after one of my favorite Fairouz songs.

This piece is iteration#3 honoring my thesis piece and I have grown to love it.

It meant the world to see my work and have my first solo show at @roll_up_project. Squishy and I love to look at what’s up in the windows on our morning walks when we come down to Jack London.

I’ll miss seeing the chickpeas shine bright at night and I’m so thankful for Squeak Carnwath and Julia for the opportunity.

This new piece (left 6’x6’) challenged me so much both physically and mentally and I’m sill kind of mad at it but it’s one of my babies and I do love it.

Big shoutout to Kate Greenberg @kate.hands.co on the metal assistance, couldn’t have crossed to the finish line without you.
