Works In Progress II is in the running for best Exhibition Design at the Dezeen Awards 2025, alongside fourteen other profound exhibitions from all over Asia, Africa, and Europe! Huge thank you @dezeen @dezeenawards_ ⭐️ The exhibition took place at the historic MacLac paint and lacquer factory, so it had to be designed without any permanent impact to the architecture. Its interior, with a cavernous ground floor and pitched mezzanine, challenged us to design a considerate flow through the space while telling the story of co-creation. We focused on creating a layout that encouraged exploration and slower engagement. A selection of the objects harmonized with minimal, reusable white-patinated aluminum pillars, built by the WIP team. Text and signage was intentionally omitted from the spatial experience, allowing visitors to engage directly with the work. Moving through vignettes of works that were crafted both individually and together, visitors grasped the nucleus of each practice and the complex process of collaboration: the intentions behind material, the overlapping of concepts, and the enmeshing of human hands. It was a who’s who of up-and-coming gallerists at 120710 in Berkeley last night for Sholeh Asgary’s performance. With Halden (Catherine Clark), Promise (Anglim/Trimble), Alex (Jenkins-Johnson) and Hannah (CCA) in the packed house (Alex and Hannah curated the current exhibition) Sholeh put on an amazing sound experience in the waning light of the last night in May. ZEPHYR COATING is on view through June 21st at 1207 Tenth Street in Berkeley. Congratulations, everyone!

This little light sculpture, shown at the @kelley_perumbeti and @kate.hands.co-curated @worksinprogress_sf II show last September, captured my attention the first moment I saw it. It was a dream to write my first @nytimes story about its maker, Jessy Slim (@_slimfactory), a talent whose work is both thoughtful and beautiful. Hi Bay Area Arts Community! ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 We’re honored to feature artist Jessy Slim in Zephyr Coating, a group exhibition opening at 120710 Gallery in Berkeley, CA this #Saturday curated by Un//titled Collective founders Alex Ehmer and Hannah Gibson. @_slimfactory @alexehma @_hlynnie_ Jessy’s work is about a space in between, a place that deconstructs, re-frames, and re-examines our surroundings, systems in place, and their implications. Utilizing architecture, installation, sculpture, and photography, intuition and memory drive her research-based practice. These projects find a means of critiquing power and authority. They act as an iconoclast and synthesize a way to understand and question the innate nature of things around us. Through her grappling with displacement, her work encompasses and embraces her personal history through the lens of a Lebanese immigrant. Utilizing chickpeas, as an ingredient emblematic of Levantine cuisine and Lebanon - Jessy intends to represent an expression of the fragmentation of cultural and political identities in both the physical and cognitive place. The temporality of each sculpture’s state is in flux and indefinite. Highlighting chickpeas, a commodified, ethnically appropriated, borrowed, and forgotten material, she intends to preserve its values and amplify it.
