My twenties with @townsendmanagement

If there was advice I could give to actors, dancers, singers, creatives who are in their 20’s, it’s this:

“Learn who to trust, & then after that, u can just be yourself & do your thing.”

Also, nothing works until u try it out for yourself. The lessons come many, many years later @screenwise

And finally, nothing that’s meant for you, will pass u by.

Carmy puts on a suit for a funeral that isn't real.

It's the restaurant's funeral, not a person's, but he dresses for it anyway. On his dresser after, a card with a lamb on it sits right next to a scrunchie that isn't his.

He never gave it back. That's the whole apology he never got around to making.

Will Claire take Carmy back?

Claire goes back to work in the same blue scrubs.

No new color story, no softer palette, nothing that reads like a costume department trying to comfort her. Courtney Wheeler keeps her plain on purpose. Work doesn't stop for a breakup, and neither does her wardrobe.

Season 3, Episode 9, "Apologies." The breakup itself goes back further, that freezer conversation from Season 2 she was never meant to hear.

A cosmetic tattoo adjustment, not a real one. Every shoot day, Carmy's actual tattoos get covered and his character's added on top.

Season 1, that process took an hour and 26 minutes. Season 3, it's down to 24.

Makeup department head Ignacia Soto-Aguilar gets there by batching instead of rushing. She applies multiple tattoo transfers at once rather than one at a time, and uses a hair dryer to cut down on setting time instead of waiting on it to air-dry. Same amount of coverage, five real tattoos hidden, eleven transfers and five scars added, just a tighter process behind it.

The same logic holds up backstage or on any set. Batch what can be batched. Use tools that speed up drying or setting instead of waiting on nature. And time your own process once for real, so you're working off an actual number instead of a guess.

In “Honeydew,” Marcus heads to Copenhagen for pastry training and the houseboat he stays on is a real houseboat on Frederiksholms Kanal that has been listed on Airbnb.

The city becomes part of the creative reset.

Donna's clothes are from when she had money. She's never let them go, and neither has the character.

Costume designer Courtney Wheeler sourced her wardrobe from places like Filene's Basement, pieces from a period when Donna was better off, and built the closet as a quiet timeline of a life that changed around her.

Same idea works for anyone building a character through what they wear. Clothes hold onto a version of a person, even after that version is gone.

Chicago, through The Bear. 🐻

The Original Beef of Chicagoland was inspired by Mr. Beef, the real River North sandwich shop that helped shape the world of the series and it’s still open today.

One more reason Chicago is high on the travel list.
