Now to the long story, for people with longer attention spans 👀

People always say it’s important for you to go through university, but also for university to go through you.

The University of Ibadan went through me.

Every time I look at my certificate, I laugh a little. On paper, everything I do today seems unrelated to what I studied. But maybe that’s because I was looking at my education too narrowly.

Everything I do today started in university. The confidence to stand in front of a crowd came from debating. The ability to lead came from student leadership. Organising events, managing people, raising funds, solving problems, all those lessons started wayyyyyy before my first 9–5.

UI shaped me in ways I couldn’t appreciate at the time. It gave me some of my happiest memories and some of the best people I know. People who are still my day ones years later.

Maybe this message is really for the girl who was scared to leave UI because the world outside the university gates felt too big. She would be so proud of Outside Uni Aimee.

Not because I have everything figured out (I still crashed out this morning.) But because we survived the uncertainty she was so afraid of. We took chances, made mistakes, learned lessons and kept it pushing. by @_theaimee
