if I could choose a word to sum up the past year, it would be fear. receiving these film photos from nearly a year ago reminded me of this, and how far I’ve come; how swift life can change, and all those tumbleweeds turn into dandelions where you can make a great, big wish again.

I thought getting older meant gaining more security. knowing more. having more.

I’ve found the opposite to be true. most of us are meandering, arms out frantically in the dark. the last year felt like a maze with trap doors. the funny thing is, the exit was almost always in sight. I only had to choose to leave.

there has been a lot of leaving. starting over. tears and hurt. but every time I said no without a guarantee of a yes, the universe always gave me a gift. I’m gaining courage, finding love. my viewfinder has opened up again.

what an honor it was to once again be on set alongside my dear friend @peggymusik ♥️ it’s truly an incredible thing to watch her continue to flourish as a person and an artist. I’ve been in set with her before, but this one was special — lavish and indulgent. powerful as we spun around to music forsaking the many, many, many men who have failed us as humans. how power crumbles and takes the people with its fall. but we can come together & create unity.

this was my first time photographing people digitally in a long long time!! I’m learning all over again but I adore these and had to share … Peggy’s album is out Nov 13 and I can confirm it’s an absolute treasure from top to bottom!! taken in Los Angeles, California by @_theataylor

end of summer tends to be my favorite time of the year, but this go around, it proved to be difficult and full of (not fun) surprises. but what I’ll remember and cherish from this summer, that made it feel bright after all, was this trip to cleveland. so much green!! laughed so much til I cried with @midmatteo 🥲 the best, the best taken in Cleveland, Ohio by @_theataylor

read two really great books the week (before last but let’s forget about the technicalities for a sec), so here’s what I underlined 🖊️

1st book is THE ASTONISHING COLOR OF AFTER by @exrpan
- coming of age, Taiwanese magical realism about grief (TW: suicide). heavy subject matter here but pan captured the wake of depression and the spiral of grief so, so incredibly well.

2nd book is RAVENOUS by @_sara_cooper_
- an offbeat, semi-body horror about influencer culture and the painful collapse of our economy. this one is wacky but potent, full of influencer-isms and hyperbolic cliches, paired with glimpses of anger and agony in what it means to be a woman in this era.

recipe down below 🍌

• @_sunnyday.co light roast espresso
• @califiafarms coconut milk
• banana jam
[for jam]
• 1 overripe mashed banana
• 1/2 cup brown sugar
• 1 tbsp lemon juice
- put all ingredients in a small pan over a medium heat, mixing well while they melt together. allow everything to simmer and reduce until it’s a nice golden, jammy texture. cool completely before sealing in a jar!

trying this new thing where I write a weekly postcard about my highs, lows, & what I’d bring to the picnic (usually a book) 💌 my first & latest was mostly about my time in frazier park where I reconnected with what’s important (living a simple life) but also got heatstroke and couldn’t get home when I was supposed to cause my car broke down 🥰 read all about it in my latest substack!! link in bio 🔗
